My daughter went in for asthma attack to get a breathing treatment. The Dr didn't know what to do with her asthma as they don't have asthma treatment. They did check her for all of the airborne viruses which is good. He did give her new inhaler since her inhaler isn't helping her. They checked her breathing and she failed it twice so it's kinda of scary how they let her go with her lungs aren't working that good cuz of the asthma. he gave her steroid pills for four days. They don't let anyone go back with the patient except if you are bleeding I guess. As my daughter told me there was a guy bleeding from his knees , left arm and his head. She said they only covered his legs with a sheet but his head was still bleeding all over his face. But his family were in the back with him. The staff are super nice honestly so I have no issues with them. It's the free medical system that isn't good! Overall yes go there if you need to see a dr night or weekend. No don't go there if it's during the days of the weekdays. Like there is a lot of private Dr's that you can see if you want to get checked for normal things.

And, if your eyes are healthy, no matter how much I rave about this place, I'm not sure you'll really be inclined to pay it a visit. Anyway, here I am reviewing it regardless. My eyes are a bit dodgy, so I have to come here about twice a year, and while it's very fashionable to complain about the NHS, I've actually always been pretty impressed, as they're efficient and friendly here, I have a nice doctor, and, because it's a specialist hospital, there isn't quite the same overpowering atmosphere of dying and depression here that is in other medical institutions. My only complaint concerns the name, which I think implies some sort of gracious, royally-endowed pagoda-like building, perhaps with some peacocks outside, or at the very least some bunting. The Eye Pavillion is nothing like this at all. It's an ugly structure made out of concrete. Perhaps the people who built it assumed that everyone who came here would be too blind to notice.

I recently had to take my son in with an inexplicably (very) painful knee. The staff were unstintingly kind and turned what could have been quite a traumatic experience into something that bordered on fun ("I love having my bloods taken out"). We're not just talking toys in the waiting room - there was an 'art cart' loaded with fancy pens, stencils and bits to colour in and take home. Communication was superb, with both me and with Sam - he was never excluded or talked down to. He likes to know what's going on and I'm confident that the fact they involved him so much made the tests more bearable. Even beyond the treatment, staff members passing us in the waiting area often stopped to ask how we were doing and have a quick chat. The staff were extremely thorough, gave him loads of time and didn't diagnose him until they were confident they'd ruled out the more serious possibilities in several appointments over the course of a week. Obviously I hope we don't have too many return visits, but I'm confident that if we are ever back we'll get brilliant, personal care in a really sensitive, child-focused environment.

The place is loved by the city and often specialist equipment is bought on the back of fundraising campaigns organised by the Friends and well publicised through the local papers. The current building is in need of upgrading and is really too small for the purpose.

Not really a hospital any more. this used to house the maternity unit for the east side of the city…read moreand east lothian. it has suffered the same fate as many commumity hospitals in the city and east Scotland. it has been closed and the majority demolished to make way for housing while the people who usd it are having to travel distances to be treated in the monolith hospitals created on sites away from most of the population with poor public transport access and expensive parking

Also as a huge warning, the cafe is one of the most miserable places on earth. I found the servers helpful and the back of house team clearly very good with the butchery skills. As much as I would like to have private health care I was here only due the NHS buying up excess capacity. Lovely room with a table for one looking out of well manicured gardens. Rabbits abounded and I saw some birds mating. For my lunch course I had soup with a panini. Being Scottish when selecting my menu choices I ticked all the boxes in the hope they would provide me with more than one meal. Unfortunately I was informed that one could only have either a panini OR the poached salmon course. Sadly I went with the panini but after consumption I would not recommend it. The taste was chemical and washed out but I am not sure if there might have been a correlation with just waking up from a medically induced coma. Overall 4 stars. TOP TIP - take your own slippers with you and a robe. Although I was provided with a flattering gown - (on the house I may add!) the robe and slippers they gave me would have been more suited to a diminutive woman. I think I flashed quite a lot of leg and heel.

Everything is well organised and even though waiting times seemed to be a little a off (I turned up for an open clinic and I was first in, but still had to wait over an hour) I was seen by medical staff who were knowledgeable and genuinely caring. Not every contraception is right for every person, so if you're wanting a change I recommend this place, will take "patients" of any age unlike other clinics around Edinburgh.
