If she had taken the time to talk with me, or made me feel like I could ask her questions without annoying her and wasting her time, this could have been avoided. Her dismissive attitude was fairly common. She seemed like she wanted to move me through as fast as possible, either by throwing medicine at me, dismissing my concerns, or sending me to another doctor. I stopped going to her, and do not recommend her. I just felt dumb every time I saw her, like I was being a burden. Hopefully there are better doctors out there...

Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Steve Morris was not so stellar. He seems to take a very cookie cutter approach to diagnosis and treatment. (The reason I prefer naturopaths to medical MDs is that I expect them to be more holistic in their approach.) Not too long into my first visit he handed me a lifestyle sheet, essentially an eating and exercise plan, which he said that he recommends to all his patients. He did this prior to understanding my medical history or current condition. When I told him that I was experiencing insomnia, he told me it was from drinking coffee and eating heavy meals at dinner. He pronounced this without asking any additional questions about frequency, when it started, changes in lifestyle, etc. When I told him I was having headaches, he told me it was from dehydration. Again, he made this pronouncement without asking any additional questions like where does it hurt, what type of pain, etc. The nail in the coffin for me was that he gave me iodine pills as a supplement for hypothyroidism. My previous naturopath had never done this so I did some research when I got home. Iodine is only recommended for hypothyroidism when it's caused by iodine deficiency. In fact, excess iodine can make hypothyroidism worse so supplements are not recommended if your iodine levels are normal. Dr. Morris never tested my iodine levels. In addition, iodine is especially not recommended if you have an auto-immune form of hypothyroidism, which I have, which I told him. Cookie cutter approach and lack of thorough investigation is bad enough; prescribing treatment contraindicated for my disease is unacceptable.

Usually people who have no choice but to pay out of pocket don't change dr's for this very reason. I disliked this dr so much that I am going to find another dr even though it will mean another insane new dr fee. Dr Janel is possibly an adequate dr if bedside manner and basic human emotions don't matter to you, but I need to feel like my dr is a person first and a dr next. She has an aloofness and business like manner that comes off seeming disinterested, rushed and lacking compassion. I came away feeling like I had been a nuisance to her, like I should have apologized for having bothered her by giving her a lot of money for nothing. Besides general demeanor there were other little things like telling me she was going to take my picture with her ipad, rather than asking, and then being dismissive of my questioning why. ("the medical app requests it"). Maybe I don't want my picture in her app's data base. I don't know anything about the privacy policies of her app's. Also, she prescribed a course of medication without telling me it was important to supplement with probiotics, and although I already new this, it further detracted from my confidence in her. What if I hadn't known? She didn't think of it herself , but when I cued her by asking if she thought I should supplement with probiotics, she said yes, and then tried to get me to buy a 40 something dollar bottle from her. When I called later during a severe allergic reaction she never returned my call. Bottom line: I didn't trust her or feel respected by her.

My primary care doctor, who is a wonderful person, but is always rushed, seems to sort of brush these issues off as just a part of life, which led to a search for more integrative whole person care. I live super close to this adorable little office, looked them up and realized that my insurance wouldn't cover them. I figured the potential payoff though was worth the out of pocket spend, so I booked anyway. Their office manager, Taylor immediately reached out to discuss insurance and let me know this care appeared to be out of network, which I had expected but fully appreciated. She also offered to give me a super bill following the appointment so I could both attempt to receive reimbursement and use the spend while filing taxes. The day of my appointment they reached out again with an estimated cost of services- which seemed to be because of the out of network care. Again, amazing transparency for a healthcare environment. My appointment felt very much like a meeting with an old friend. Dr. Dubois listened, was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and when tests were needed, she covered the cost of these tests up front and asked about budgeting and timing for them if they were not currently a doable amount. I cannot imagine they could have been any more flexible and kind, and even knowing with 100% certainty my care was out of network and would be more expensive than seeing my PCP I would absolutely book this again. I'd give 6 stars if I could. She never did anything. Now she is charging me for 3 visits for 2021 says they will take me to collections I refuse to pay. I almost died... Dont go to her.
