This lady is an established woven textile artist and designer and the 2008 Winner of the Applied Arts Award at the Welsh Artist of the Year competition.
Born and brought up in Pembrokeshire, Laura studied woven textiles in the University of Central England, The Royal College of Art, and then went on to become one of the founding Fellows of The Ann Sutton Foundation, a weave design research centre in Sussex. Since completing her Fellowship in 2003, Laura has been working from her fully equipped studio in the centre of Cardiff, Wales.Laura now specialises in producing bold and vibrant textile artworks for public spaces, corporate environments, exhibitions and private homes. These can either be commissioned directly from the studio or purchased through a number of galleries.
The artist draws her inspiration through combining the 'graphic' and 'organic' elements of the Pembrokeshire landscape in painterly gradations of hues and shades, or sharp stripes and blocks of bold colours with selective contrasting highlights. Rothko, Sol Lewitt, Agnes Martin, Richard Long, Josef and Annie Albers, John Maeda, Tomato, Nuno Corporation and Dan Flavin all also get nods.
Laura welcomes collaboration with architects, interior designers and other creative practitioners on projects for the commercial or conceptual sphere.
