I'm a mechanical engineer with experience in the automotive industry. I'm giving 3 of 5 stars…read morebecause I did not actually use their service. I did however take my car to the shop for a quote. I first called to ask for a quote for a specific repair job for a specific car. They would not provide a quote over the phone as a couple of other shops did. They insisted I bring the car in for diagnosis, so at the appointed time I showed up with the car. After three hours of waiting, they provided a quote for the service I asked for that was ~50% higher than the next closest quote. They also did a 'courtesy inspection' which I did not ask for. This inspection resulted in 7 additional recommended items totaling about $1,800. Things like this fluid change, that cleaning, etc. The car has 300k miles on it, and the majority of these items have never been done. The experience reminds me of the slick marketing we get at the dealership repair shops, and is exactly what I was hoping to avoid by choosing a 'family-owned' shop. The actual work product may in fact be excellent; I don't know. But it is probably over priced.

How does that happen! Hopefully, the owner will acknowledge their mistake and resolve it.....after spending almost $5,000 there this month! The owner, Robbie, worked with us and we were able to come to an agreement. BMW being fixed today, and Robbie was very apologetic and takes his family owned business very seriously. Happy we were able to fix the communication problems and I plan on continue using their services. I recommend supporting locally owned businesses in our community and I hope to be a returning customer for the next several years to come. Hard to find trustworthy auto repair shops. I appreciate and respect Robbie's willingness to resolve the communication issue.

I was headed to the neighboring Ford dealership when I spotted Arnold's on Yelp. My 2005 Ford…read moreEscape wasn't shifting well. They quickly accomodated me without an appointment. They ran some diagnostics, suggested it wasn't a major problem. I did get a tranmission service (draining 4 quarts of transmission fluid and replacing it). I think I was out the door for $73 with tax. It would have costed double or triple that for the dealership to run the tests. I appreciate that Arnolds didn't try to stick me with an unneeded repair. Arnold Wanger started the business in the 1960's. Arnold has since sold the business to one of his long-time employees. The technicians are well certified. Based on the long line of certifications on the wall, Chuck has been here since 1983.

I took my van there for a rebuild. Wrong…read more Got it back and it leaked constantly. I took it back after a while. The hag at the desk didn't even want to help me despite the warranty, saying I should have come back within 10 days. Nice to know. The technician who did the work looked at it anyway since I put up a resistance to her BS (warranty is warranty). Inspects it and comes back saying it's leaking out the slip yoke and implying it's my problem. Well, I dug into it and find the -real- problem is that my "rebuild" was really a "swap" and did not contain the sleeve and O-ring around the tailshaft that has been a designed feature of EVERY TRUCK 700R4 AND 4L60E EVER PUT IN. Chose to lie to me about whose fault it is, he had to have known about this (been going on since the '80s). So attempted denial of warranty service, then actual denial of warranty service for a problem that is entirely their fault. Do not come here. Do not take their word for anything. Documents or hardware they will lie to your face just to avoid their responsibility.
