If you don't like fighting a crowd, I recommend showing up to the waterfront bars in Marseille on a Wednesday night in October! :) Fall is an "off-season" in Marseille, so the entire patio of tables (probably 150 seats) was basically empty, excepting our group. Staff is friendly and generally pretty quick (again, perhaps due to non-existent crowds). There's a full bar drink selection, including my most recent great discovery: peach syrup mixed with light beer (don't knock it until you have tried it). Huge plus in that they take credit cards (not a given in Marseille), but pretty big minus in that they generally won't keep a tab. Free olives and sour cream and onion chips located near the door! They're self-serve - grab a bowl (or several) and bring them to your table.

The Guiness was as good as you get in Dublin or elsewhere in Ireland. The bartender and the rest of the team was very nice and helpful - something you dont often see in an Irish Pub - no matter where in the world its located. This bar is set right next to the port - so good views and great people watching but for dining there are dozens of other places of varying degrees of expense to get a good meal (and still keep drinking).

This place isn't one of those touristy places where they serve you bad food. They take their food quality really seriously here. You can tell based off of what you get. The wait staff is pretty nice although service is really slow. I suppose it is not the American way where they push you out. Instead, they take your time so you can enjoy your food. For parents of little ones though, I would have appreciated some more expediency. The food was sooooo good. They serve typical Provincal food. We got their seafood platter. The freshly made garlic mayo complimented the food perfectly. I also got the shrimp and rice. This was yummy but not as good as the seafood platter. The next day we got grilled octopus with rice. The octopus was perfectly grilled. For high quality food, the price point isn't too bad. I think it is on the more affordable end.
