They offer Latin street dancing such as Salsa, Bachata, Brazilian Samba, Reggaeton (think of it as Latin Hip-Hop), Zumba and Burlesque. There's always something happening around the studio from the normal running classes, choreography/performance courses and training, and socials. It's a friendly environment to be around while learning and refining those dancing skills and shaking those hips, the way they were made to move.

I'm familiar with the Arthur Murray chain because they have studios in the USA, but I've never…read moreactually been inside a studio before. We decided to sign up for some ballroom dance classes to ensure we don't look like idiots at our wedding, so my future hubby did some googling and found Arthur Murray. We went in for our initial meet and greet where they taught us some basic moves to get a feel for how good (or bad) we were at picking up the steps and assigned us a teacher. We've since been to four classes (two personal and two group) and are really enjoying ourselves and considering continuing thereafter. A few things to note: -The studio looks like it was built in the 40s and hasn't had a refurb since. Obviously the floors are redone and they have full length mirrors, but the studio is off Wynyard Ln (a glorified alleyway) and spans over two floors. The bathrooms are outdated and the paper towel dispenser I swear is from WWII era. -The personal classes are taught in the main studio and are conducted while other couples and individuals have their individual lessons too. You have to navigate around the couples and jump around with different steps and music, so can feel a bit sporadic. They say they do this to teach you a lot and work on different things, so I'll trust them on this. -The group classes are upstairs in a nicer studio and I've liked these so far. Our first group class was immediately after our individual and it ended up just being the two of us so we ended up with 2 private lessons in a row! I like these classes because you learn a few things that give you that extra flair in your dancing. Will have to update this when all of our lessons are completed!

On Monday nights at around 6pm, a dusty old room at the top of the Mosman Scout Hall is filled with…read morethe gentle sound of hundreds of tiny bells, the loud beat of egyptian drums, feet chasséing across wooden floorboards, and occasionally - something like a hyena being strangled (Ululation - a high pitched howl used to express celebration). Felicia is a wonderful teacher, and as humble as she is kind. She breaks down each movement into manageable pieces, so whether you're an experienced dancer, or someone who (like me) turns has trouble distinguishing left from right and arms from legs - you'll get something from the classes. Classes are welcoming to people of all ages and body types. You don't need a body like Shakira - so if your hips don't lie don't sweat it. And if you're a skinny mini - don't be fooled into thinking you need a 'belly' to belly dance either. It's a low impact dance that anyone can learn. You will discover muscles you didn't know you had and walk airily like a prima ballerina for days afterwards. This location is great for North Shore ladies - close to the Mosman ferry wharf and busses. If Mosman is too far - there are classes held on different nights at different locations across Sydney. Check the website for classes in the inner west and eastern suburbs.

Contemporary dance can be a bit of a hit and miss sometimes. But the Sydney Dance Company always…read moremanages to provide beautiful works, especially with Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela at the helm. I've been to 2 of his previous productions (6 breaths and Irony of Fate, under the umbrella of New Creations) and they were breath-taking. I'll be seeing his next one "the land of yes and the land of no" in a couple of weeks and I'm sure it will be beautiful too. Go buy tix now! :) The only times when the production can be a bit of a miss is the first half, which is usually choreographed by the guest choreographer. Technically the company dancers are great of course, but the choreography or the accompanying music is sometimes off. There was one which had screeching violins for most of the dance and it was awful. But don't let this deter you from going as this is unusual and mostly the dances are pleasant to watch. Definitely try to catch one of Rafael's performances and watch some of Australia's finest dancers doing what they do best.

It's a great place for the tiny tots to get introduced to music and dance. Every December they have concert where children from the studio perform. The pre-schoolers performed on Bananas and Pyjamas. You could imagine the joy of seeing my 4 year old performing on stage for the first time. All the other performances were excellent and I couldn't believe that this was actually being performed by amateurs and not professionals. They also lots of other classes like Tap, Ballet, hip hop, drama singing etc. The teacher Miss Simone is very helpful and pleasant. And I must say she is very patient with all her students. They have a few teachers and are very flexible with their students on what their interests are .unfortunately I had to pull my son out as we were moving but would recommend it to anyone living in the area.
