I've only been with The UU for 4 months, but I can confidently tell you that I made the right…read morechoice. My trainer is Christian Livingston, and he is extremely knowledgeable in dealing with all levels of abilities. I am still fairly new to working out, and Christian is good about knowing how to push me without overwhelming me. My favorite thing about The UU is the community atmosphere! You'll meet Troy, one of the owners, during your first consult. You have a choice to just have a gym membership, or to add personal training on top of that (one-on-one; small group or large group sessions are available); there are also optional group classes. Also, all of the front desk staffers (I see Dylan and Joey the most) know me by first name... and It's not uncommon for everyone to stop at the front desk after their workouts to talk to whoever is working; the staff is more than just friendly - they are personable. I workout 4x times a week - three of those sessions are with a small group that trains together with Christian; our group focuses on compound lifting with conditioning. The 4th day is a boxing cardio class. I also schedule appointments with their in-house chiropractor, Dr. Doug; and occasionally with their in-house licensed massage therapist. However, they offer more than just these two services - hence their full name: The Ultimate U Total Health. (Side note, they also have babysitting). When my friends see that I'm lifting heavy weights, they always assume that I'm doing CrossFit. But this is NOT a CrossFit gym. Yes, we have the same community atmosphere as CrossFit, but the biggest difference is that all of our trainers are college educated (mostly in some sort of Sports and Exercise Science) AND they are nationally certified - so their goal is to keep you healthy and injury free. When you first start with a trainer, they'll ask what kind of of surgeries have you had, or do you have any injuries that you are prone to - and then he/she modifies all of the exercises to work around it. All of the trainers know how to keep pushing you without breaking you!! Also, not every training session does heavy lifting... you are placed in a group that will motivate you to show up and keep moving. As a small business owner, I appreciate all of the excellent customer service and care that the entire staff demonstrates. I don't just feel like a client... they treat me like a friend. If you are looking for a gym to be more than just a gym... then I would highly recommend coming out to visit MY gym in New Albany. (We are right off of 161 - Johnstown Rd/62 exit - so it's super easy to access).

I wanted to get back to my previous fitness level so I went on Thumbtack (I had 3 matches pop up but after meeting with Troy one of the owners I stopped searching) to look for a personal trainer and found Ultimate U. Best find ever, the name says it all! I've been to Planet Fitness, Lifetime, L.A. Fitness and none of them compare to the UU; here is my quick rundown on how awesome this gym is :) 1. Troy McGowan has an amazing talent of setting you up with the right trainer! 2. I've been working out with Drew M. and Karyn H. I have the utmost confidence(and respect) in their skills and knowledge and I'm a tough cookie! 3. The front desk staff...warm, inviting, friendly, a pleasant departure from previous gyms I've been to. 4. You are respected no matter what your fitness level is! 5. There is so much positive energy pumping through the veins of this gym and it's staff that you can't help but be excited to be a member! Last but not least... 6. Fitness is a lifetime commitment, the Ultimate U makes it easy to turn commitment into achievement! And it's clean!!!!!!!!

When I first signed up for a class at 3Minute Fitness, I did not know what to expect. You walk in…read moreand it is a smaller little workout place with grass turf in the middle. I am not going to lie, I felt completely out of place during my first class. Everyone seemed to know what they are doing at each station and the different terminology used. The extremely nice thing is that the instructors go over each station, demonstrate, and tell you how long you are to do things. There are 10 stations and you are at each station for 3 minutes each. There is typically two types of workouts at one station. They can switch every 30 seconds, 2 minutes and 1 minute, or whatever the instructors decide that day. This makes the workout seem much faster! The stations pretty much stay the same: The what I call "fancier" treadmill, kettle bells, rower, Jacob's ladder, TRX, cycling, weights, body weight exercises, and the Dog Sled/ropes. I wish I knew more of the actual terminology of the equipment. It seems to be a rotations of cardio and then weights. Some exercises you do using body weights, such as push ups or burpees. Even though it's only 3 minutes at each station, it is a tough workout and the instructors will absolutely push you! You do get a break in between each station and this time can be used to wipe down the station you were just at. You will warm up and cool down with the instructor and will have music to help motivate you. I typically go during the weekends because those are full body workout days. I have gotten a chance to meet Shannon, Mackenzie, Diana, and Ulli. They all have such a different personality to them which I appreciate. I love Ulli's energy and Diana is hilarious! I would highly suggest 3MF if you want a killer workout! :)

I heard about 3Minute Fitness New Albany from Yelp Elite Lindsay G and her Find Where You Fit…read moregroup. The event she put on there was great. Why? I got out of my comfort zone for 50 minutes and experienced heart pounding workouts. As well as made modifications when I needed to. Just like the previous review, I had tried out all the gyms like Orangetheory, Lifetime Fitness, etc and none really did the job I was looking to get out of a real workout. Fast forward to yesterday, I step foot into 3Minute Fitness see, a bunch of stations and realize, dam I'm going to have my ass kicked here seeing all this equipment. It was certainly the case, 10 stations were put together and each station was 3 minutes hence the name of the place. They definitely kicked this girls butt yesterday! When you get to that point where it's super uncomfortable and you can't go anymore, that's when you know you've had a real workout. I had that here last night. I started on the rowing machine then did body lunges, followed by the hardest thing there the Jacob's ladder which moves only when you do and you have to be strapped to it. From there I moved onto the TRX straps, followed by the bike, weights, ball weights, Rogue equipment you push down the field and back, treadmill controlled by your movement alone and finally kettle bell's. Whew, that was a mother load of a workout! I probably missed a few little things but as you can tell I'm still sore from yesterday as I type this review! 3Minute Fitness, you definitely impressed this girl with your fitness classes! I love when I get the best workout that not only makes me feel better, but changes my whole day from a bad day to the best day of my life from sweating and working as hard as I knew I did!
