Zero stars. Do not go here this place deserves to go out of…read morebusiness. The single operational bowling lane is not maintained in the slightest, the balls are chipped and filthy. It's An absolute shit hole, there were empty alcohol bottles, we were completely ignored by the one staff member who didn't look up from her phone, they even had a single song playing on repeat and it was more expensive than xtreme entertainment which is just around the corner and is a fantastic venue I cannot fault.

You can even buy memberships, like a gym, so that instead of running on a treadmill each day, you can come in and pit your warlords against somebody else's dragons. Or something like that.

I for one had never heard of it until we started dating but as they say there is a niche for everything, and Games Workshop caters for one of these. The store itself purveys wares related to games, collectibles and models with a special focus on Warhammer 40 K. The guys who work here at super knowledgeable, friendly and always trying to get you involved in store events (I prefer to be a silent supporter who is 'allowed' to help paint the models every once in a while) What's cool about this place is how it functions as a social club, there are tutorials and workshops held often and people are encouraged to meet up with their mates and challenge each other on the terrain which is available in-store. Perhaps my favourite thing about Games Workshop though is that it's right next door to some of my favourite shops on queen street, so it is more than easy to do the whole extraction mission without my partner even noticing I have gone.

Staff and bartenders were super friendly, and consistently walked around making sure the place was clean. Drink prices were good, but the cost to golf was a little steep. You can pay for either 9, 18, or all 27 hoIes, and you get to choose your 9-hole stretches. I liked how they incorporated pinball, planko, pool, and ball maze into the games, instead of just got traditional putt putt course. And the directions before each hole was cool. Holes are short, so you'll knock out 18 in about 40 minutes.

Some of the holes were fun and tricky yet some were boring and ended with the same outcome for every player. I think playing 18 holes would be repetitive by the end. The music was good and staff was friendly, so we were able to make our own fun out of it but the facilities were not all that impressive. One of the machines for one of the holes was broken as well which was disappointing, it stole our balls and happened for multiple groups in front of us as well. Cheap drinks were good though.

In this day and age of chain stores selling nothing much but top of the pops CDs and band t-shirts…read morewith singers on them who appear still to be foetal, Marbecks is welcome respite. Any music lover will adore Marbecks. You get that feeling of being in an actual place when you visit, rather than in just another cloned merchandising experience. You also get a real Alice down the rabbit hole feeling because of the wonderful range, and it's one place that actually makes me feel excited about buying music. The staff here are excellent and great at fielding all kinds of questions, and very accommodating to importing things especially for you and that kind of stuff. They also have a dangerously tempting range of books and a decent stock of vinyl, so there's a lot to keep you busy once you get there.

Although getting music in these times is a heap easier and often cheaper, I do miss the days of…read morespending hours in a CD store waiting for mum while she does the shopping. The ritual of waiting for an album release and going to buy it the day it comes out with everyone else, made it even more exciting. And I think buying a CD is a real testament to your love for a musician. Marbecks is literally the only CD store I can think of that's still in business, and it is a doozy. Hidden away in Queen St Arcade, i'm sure a lot of people still have no idea it's even there, despite it being around since 1934. But once you do discover it I challenge you to suppress the smile from your face. It is full to the brim with music of all different styles and in many different forms. Top 40 CDs, to classic and rare vinyls. The staff are extremely knowledgeable, it's clear they're massive music lovers and big fans of this dying medium. A great way to spend the day and probably the best place to do it. Give Marbecks the helping hand it needs and go have some fun there.
