I cannot rave enough about Finkley Down Farm. I don't even have kids I can use as an excuse - I…read moresimply come here to relax and spend some time with the animals. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful and the abundance of cute greedy animals desperate for you to feed them is nothing short of delightful. Their animals range from goats and sheep to chickens to cows right over to the more unusual llamas and highland cows. Even if you're not into getting close to the animals or feeding them the buckets of food available at the ticket office, just watching them mooch around is still fun and relaxing. The llama took somewhat of a disliking to me (was it something I said?) and stormed at me, looking like it could easily clear the fence and gain its freedom. I wasn't going to hang around to find out. One look at my pathetic retreating hide running off into the distance was enough to reduce its anger to mere disdain, and instead he decided to spit all over me. In some sort of random heroic act, the pig sharing its pen flung itself at the llama as if to take the blow for me, and rather than reflect on the llama soaking I'd been given, I instead watched this pig take one for the team. Right in the eye, no less. From hereonin, I shall name this pig SuperPig. If you do have kids you can pretend are the reason for visiting, there's plenty to keep them occupied. Other than the animals you can feed, there are talks and handling sessions with some of the smaller or baby pets throughout the day. There's also a nice adventure playground and a couple of trampolines to wear them out on too. There's a small gift shop and a place to buy some food, as well as a picnic area if you're sensible enough to bring your own food. I love this place and can't wait to go back when it reopens for the season next year.

Lots to see and many activities laid on for the children. Arm them with a bucket of food from the entrance first though or you will find yourself running back for some! On site cafe sells everything from fish & chips to ice cream or just a cuppa. Toilets well sign posted and clean. Lots of basins and hand gel dotted around for after you have touched the animals. Nice staff who are kid friendly. Congratulations to the farm for keeping the gift shop prices low, lots of souvenirs on sale for under £2.

The children have been going there for a couple of years at least and always manage to burn off some of that excess energy. It is a very reasonable price to get in, and to my knowledge the play time is unlimited. Drinks and snacks are also very reasonably priced and I like the fact that you can get a 'normal' cup of tea or coffee in un-matching mugs,, rather than just getting the extortionate priced fancy branded coffees at some similar places. The cost factor is very important to many families, so if mum (or dad!) can sit on a comfy sofa drinking tea whilst kids play for not too much money - well that's a bonus. The food selection is also very good - personal favourite is the jacket potato with veggie chilli and cheese. The kids can have a choice of food and they also do a tiddlers menu for about £1.25 which is maybe just 1 sausage with a couple of smiley face potatos and some beans - ideal for the younger or smaller appetite. They also have party rooms, so you can have the party there with no clearing up to do - hooray!

Rumour is that it is in the hands of receivers, but only a rumour of course. If it does re-open though, for what it's worth - this is my opinion! There are / were 3 local playspaces for children. Wizzy world is probably better suited to the slightly older children. There were bigger slides, and higher equipment, that was a bit daunting for younger kids. The smaller play area was for under 3's only, but in my opinion the big area was way too big for a child just turned 3. I found the place to be very expensive and there was also a gift shop grr as if you hadn't already paid enough to go in. My other dislike was there was a station with games consoles there. I was taking the kids to get some exercise and run off some energy - not to stand and play on games consoles - they could do that at home! In my overall opinion , no great loss that it isn't open at present.

There was a total lack of interest from any member of staff including the so called manager and don't even get me started on the toilets, filth doesn't come close! There were a large number of teenagers who were quite obviously above the height recommendations fighting in the play frame and walking up the slide, the whole place was dirty, smelly and very poorly run, the whole place was nothing other than disgusting.,

However it's probably just as densely populated with animals, including ponies, pigs, sheep and goats. The have hen coops where you are allowed to feed bread to the chickens, and a pond which has several species of duck and some rare geese. It's all very pretty and clean, though the cats ignore visitors and I couldn't blame them. Several visiting kids were going on about 'scaring the cats away', right in front of their smiling parents. What's that about? You've got to wonder if some people deserve places like this Being larger than the average city farm they can go a little further with the animals They have a shire horse, a very unfriendly turkey who was not happy with anyone coming near his domain, ferrets (not visible when I visited) peacocks and a kookaburra. You don't see one of them on a farm every day! Definitely recommended if you are in the area.

They also have pigs, chickens, horses, ponies and ducks to name but a few. They have special days during the summer when they have kids days out, I think they do face painting etc. Dont just pass this little attraction, go to it today, it is well worth a visit!

We had the entire place to ourselves and other than the weather, it was perfect. We started with the animals. The gave us a bag of feed and the sheep came running down the hill to see us. All of the animals were very eager for us to feed them. Most of them were gentle, but the larger goats were very aggressive. It's not like we thought that they would hurt us, they were just pushy and scary to the kids. The staff at the farm were excellent. They were great with the kids, giving them extra treats to feed the animals and telling us about everything. It is a beautiful, well kept farm and all of the animals look happy and healthy. We spent the second half of our visit in the playground area. The giant trampoline was a huge hit. We jumped until we had to stop from too much giggling. It's a workout. The playground is so extensive, that if the weather had not been so cold, we could have spent several more hours here. The kids didn't want to leave, There is a nice cafe with nearby indoor slides to keep kids and adults happy!
