The food was not great but it was quite good and the espresso drinks were very food and rivals the best coffee in San Francisco. Please note that you have to ring the bell in order to be let in, so wait a little bit before going away if you get there during regular business hours. At that point, he had effectively marked his territory, and we collectively decided that risking a pastry wasn't worth becoming part of the neighborhood scenery. We promptly backed out and left. I'm sure the bakery may make great pastries, but first impressions matter. If customers are greeted by open fences, apparent drug activity, and an environment that feels unsafe before they even park, it's hard to justify staying. Hopefully the business and property owners can work with the city to address the surrounding conditions, because no croissant is worth wondering whether you're about to witness an episode of Cops.
