From what I gather, this place originally started out as one of those military surplus shops, although these days it's more of a general stockist of all things outdoors-related.
Having just closed the smaller Newington branch, this is their only one left in Edinburgh, but it was always their biggest and so they have a good range of stock. In particular, they're quite popular for Doc Martens. I should know, my flatmate's dragged me in here enough times to look at them (and then never buy any...).
The service is always good, not only because the staff are friendly and polite, but because you can tell they work there because they genuinely know what they're on about because they spend all their spare time out camping on a clifftop somewhere, rather than because they simply needed a summer job as is so often the case in other shops.
They also have everything from tents to saws, and sleeping bags to pretty specialised First Aid supplies, so for all you Ray Mears wannabes out there this is somewhere you should pop into. They do also have an extensive online shop too. read more
