Addendum 5/3/2015: I have just read something rather dumb. At the website of the Greeley City…read moreGovernment (sigh) Greeley's elected and unelected elite gives this as the Police Departments mission: "The Mission of the Greeley Police Department is a simple and direct one: Improve the quality of life for the people of our community." Can you believe that! Have you ever heard of such a thing! Not "serve and protect" (a cliche, I admit, but closer to what the real role of the police department is). Not "law and order." Not "catch criminals". Just "improve the quality of life for the people of our community." Well, I need my quality of life improved. Cleaner water, a sun porch, higher pay, a newer car, better medical care, good meals, an exercise program, another couple of channels on television, good friends, car repairs, free tickets to Bronco games. So if I understand the Greeley Government correctly, the police are supposed to do this for me? :D :D When they rewrite the mission for the Police Department, it is hoped they will do so intelligently, aware of what the actual purposes and functions are of a police department. And drop this feel-good, we will pamper you attitude. In the meantime, the Police Chief himself does understand the role of police. he summarizes the mission:: Apprehend career criminals Improve traffic safety conduct an annual, free Citizen Police Academy provide speakers on law enforcement and crime prevention community outreach suppression of crime enforcement of laws and ordinances perform background checks maintain the records for the Greeley Police Department, Weld County Sheriff, and Kersey Police Department ... and so on. I always read Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner's editorials in "The Tribune" newspaper of Greeley. He is an excellent writer. His articles let me know how he views the role of law enforcement, and what he sees as Greeley's strengths and challenges. I also like the information he gives about particular projects and accomplishments of the Police Department. I maintain the opinions voiced in my previous review.

Officers will never respond to any call. When they call you back regarding continuous activities…read morethey speak to you like you do not matter. They treat you as if you are a criminal. They are always too busy to respond to any matter, but you will see 2 of them sitting at a gas station talking for over an hour. But hey, they have things that are priority over your complaint that can be rectified if they would just show up. Free coffee at Starbucks is more important to them too. I had a GPD officer cut in line at Starbucks because he said he was priority. He told the barista he was headed to a call, but stopping for his "on the house coffee" is a priority rather than the call he was headed to. Got my coffee went outside and there he was sitting on the parking lot drinking his free coffee talking on his phone....i thought there was a call he had to get to...it was the phone call not a police response call. After my encounter and my discussion with an officer tonight, I am thoroughly disgusted with the lack of enforcement by "law enforcement " from Greeley, CO. They are paid to do a job they are literally scared to do. Why become a police officer if you wont do your job. The Mayor of Greeley needs to take a good look at the track record of the GPD and start firing the ones who do not do their job ....that would entail ensuring they respond to illegal activities and to "Serve and Protect" which they were sworn in to uphold. If you live in Greeley dont expect the police department to help you they only protect the criminals. To them if you call in a complaint, you are a criminal.

I tried to get him to come to me for about 15 minutes so I could read the information on his collar but he wouldn't let me. I called the cops to tell them there was a dog running around in traffic and he was liable to get hit by a car. I spent about another 45 minutes chasing the dog, losing him for a while, then seeing him, then losing him again. I called twice more about 15 and 30 minutes after the initial call to ask if they were coming and they didn't give me a real answer. They eventually called me back to say they weren't coming. The dog did not appear to have a fear of cars so he may have gotten hit, I have no idea. I then went to the precinct to try to get them to send someone again and they were closed because it was Saturday. I'm from New York so maybe this is a Colorado thing but I've never heard of a police station that's only open during business hours.

I talked to several different guards and they said they would go check and would get back to me with an answer then would just pass by, avoiding eye contact or stand in my face to goof off with their colleagues. They were all standing around when I continued to knock on my cell door when a blonde guard who wanted to impress her colleagues by sassing me out decided to approach me to yell that if I didn't stop trying to get their attention, they would not release me. Seems like with the minimal time and effort she took to do that, she could have simply answered my question. These people seem to have no understanding of due process. Just because someone is behind a cell does not mean that they have been convicted of anything, yet they seem convinced that they have the right to treat people like criminals. Truthfully, even if I was, you still have to treat people humanely, which I wasn't. They have their Google reviews turned off but after reading some of the other things online about this facility, it seems like all their problems and scandals stem from the fact that their staff are not held to any professional or moral standards. Upon my release, I asked for the names of the guards I had spoken to that day and was told that they couldn't provide that. And when I spoke to a Sheriff to file a complaint, he minimized and dismissed every issue I had brought up and said that I was expecting too much from them, essentially for expecting that they behave ethically and that they don't pass along misinformation, and to correct themselves when they do.

First of all, they share walls with a laundromat and I'm severely allergic to perfumes, so I'm automatically miserable at this location because the business next door reeks and it seeps into the DMV location. I set up an appointment on July 18th this year so I wouldn't have to sit and wait; spend as little time in the building as possible. I'm writing the review now because I wanted to give them a chance to fix the issues I'm going to mention but they acted as if what happened to me isn't a problem and they did nothing wrong, so they get to have a negative review. Anyway, back to July 18. My spouse and I got there and proceeded to pull up the email with the appointment confirmation code and went to the silly kiosk they make you use now. The kiosk refused to accept our code even though we were on time. By the time we were able to flag down an employee, we were late for the appointment and the employee couldn't make it accept the confirmation code, either. So we had to sit and wait. Thankfully, because every minute I sit in that building is literally a risk to my health, the line was short. When we got to the counter, finally, we informed them that I am transgender and do not use my legal name, please call me Justice. I also asked if it was possible to get Justice put anywhere on my ID in quotes; they said no, which I expected, but I wanted to ask anyway. We were getting my ID renewed so we can start the long, EXPENSIVE, legal process of changing my name. Even after informing them that I am transgender, which is a legally protected class in Colorado, and to please call me Justice, they outright refused to and I got deadnamed no less than 5 times during the time I was in the literal hellhole that is this location. By the time we left, I was in tears, shaking, and having a full panic attack. We emailed and tried calling and leaving a message to file a formal complaint about my experience but no one has ever responded. My spouse went there a few weeks ago and tried talking to someone, who literally said since we got my ID anyway that nothing that happened to me mattered. Basically, he was told to piss off and what they did to me was fine since I got that stupid, ugly piece of plastic out of the deal. If at all possible, avoid going to this place. Renew online, pretend you live somewhere else, ride an elephant to work. Do ANYTHING to avoid going here, especially if you're trans.

First-time Small Claims Court filers, this is for you: 1)…read moreFill out the JDF 250 form and take it to one of the two "CIVIL SMALL CLAIMS" windows in the Centennial Center, first floor. Just bring one copy and your checkbook. Don't bring exhibits or multiple copies - they won't get used. 2) Drive over to the Weld County Sheriff's Office (says WELD COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT ADMINSTRATION on the building) and pay a fee to have the defendant served. 3) Prepare your case. Read the "Small Claims Handout / 19th Judicial District Handout" and follow all instructions. FYI it won't matter how nice the paper you use for exhibits is, they scan everything and your actual papers will never be seen by the magistrate. 4) You are not required to list your exhibits on the JDF 72 Exhibit List form they give you. 5) On the day of your trial (always Thursday?) get there at least an hour ahead of the trial time (always 1:15p?). Go back to a CIVIL SMALL CLAIMS window and tell them you want to provide your exhibits to the court. They will scan all of your documents and take your USB thumb drive. You will not get these things back. Note: they have to remove all staples before scanning. 6) It's okay not to provide the defendant with a copy of your exhibits until the trial. 7) The well-prepared plaintiff will observe some cases before the day of your own trial. Observers are allowed. As this is written, cases are on the 2nd floor of the Centennial Center in Courtroom C. 8) The magistrate will take care of some preliminary business and then order opposing parties to go into little rooms, sit across a table from each other, and try to work out a deal. This is where your provide a copy of your exhibits to the defendant to keep. You will discuss your exhibits and the defendant's exhibits. Everyone will probably realize who has a strong case and who doesn't. Note that there's no arbiter present. It's just you and the defendant(s). 9) If you reach a deal, you will fill out a form that's there in the room stating what the agreement is. Don't worry if you don't know how to fill it out completely (we didn't). Just fill out what you can and go back to the courtroom. Of course, make it clear to the magistrate what part(s) you need assistance with. The magistrate is understanding and helpful. 10) If you did reach a deal, the magistrate will make it official. If you did not, both the plaintiff and defendant will present their cases, and the magistrate will rule. The whole process isn't super complicated, but they don't tell you these things. I couldn't guess why; every single Small Claims participant needs to know this stuff.
