BEWARE: When you purchase an item online, you are less likely to receive satisfactory after-sales service when a problem occurs.
Believe me, you are better off buying from a local authorised computer hardware sales centre for a little more money. Buying locally from a reputable agent, even if it means driving an hour each way, you will save time, money and peace of mind.
Laptops Direct attempted to provide a good product and after sales service, however they have failed miserably handling our son's recharging problem with his "as new, Grade A1" ASUS X501A Laptop when it would not recharge on several occasions over a two-week interval this past January.
Since we purchased an extended warranty for this possibility, we sent the laptop and a letter explaining the intermittent recharging fault to LD for diagnosis and repair prior to the warranty expiring in April 2015. The laptop was expressed couriered at a cost of 20 Euro and delivered on 19/2 @2:32PM. On 21/2, LD emailed acknowledging receipt, and on 26/2 another email stating:
"Our system is stating your laptop was tested and they was no fault found to the unit. Can you please advise on the full fault information so we can look in to this for you"
Evidently, they did not read my accompanying letter explaining the problem. I called their UK facilities on the 26th. Naturally, the automated phone queue system eventually connected my call to another customer service person whom read to me a script for my case file 77196922. I asked, if the same problem reoccurs after the extended warranty expires in April, will I be covered? I was told someone would be back to me about the warranty. LD did not respond to my warranty query which I also put in writing on 26/2 and 3/3.
On 3/3, LD called my home after 5PM and left a long, inaudible voice mail message on a poor connection. Thoroughly disgusted, I waited before renewing contact to learn if they shipped my son's laptop back after claiming not to finding fault, and if they would provide an extended warranty for the internal recharging components only.
Today, 6/3, Buy It Direct called. I thanked LD for returning the laptop which was received earlier in the day and asked about extending the warranty. The laptop was returned without any written replies to my service or warranty questions. When pressed, Trisha, answered my request concerning covering the repairs if the recharging system fails outside the terms of the warranty. I was told NO after waiting for Trisha to speak with the repair technicians manger, and then having to listen to a lengthy description of how much time LD techs spent not finding a fault.
I have prolonged this headache to WARN others of the risk of buying from Laptops / Buy it Direct. If their techs claim no problem exist, they may not cover your problem either when your warranty expires. Buy locally, so you may avoid the nightmare my son and I have experienced. read more
