Just around the corner from the Grand-Place, the store features local artisan products including jewelry made from recycled materials, small-scale brews, food, clothing, bags, books, and stationary. Great assortment of fun, unique souvenirs to remember Brussels. I purchased a fun necklace from Tanuki (www.tanukicrea.be) that is made from beautiful washi (Japanese paper) in a cherry blossom print. Friendly employees. I love supporting the small-guy and local businesses. www.manneke.brussels

I found the perfect gift to buy my friends from home. Unfortunately the chances of some of them reading this review are rather high (they yelp and stuff), sooo I'm going to keep the content of my purchase quiet. I will say I bought seven of the top-secret items (in different colors...but still. #squad) for 48€ total. If you're in the Grand Place area, this is certainly a worthy stop.

This souvenir shop has many of the things that are similar in other souvenir shops but they were located on a corner further down from the main square so less packed. They have a solid variety of clothing and goods but I specifically was looking for the onesie and a few postcards. Purchased a onesie and 6 postcards for 17.75 Euro. The staff here were helpful but I found that the rude people were other tourists. They way they cut in line and pushed out in front of me did a Ratatouille flashback to my Chinatown adventures. No wonder Americans get a bad rap. My peeps were rude in that store. Thanks for embarrassing me and the country, idiots.

Okay, while they may not be chain stores in the sense that some places are, gift shops tend to all run on a similar theme - they sell things that are uniquely related to the place that we are visiting, and in the case of Maxi Gifts it happens to be Belgium. Well, I got myself a T-shirt, namely because I try to get a T-shirt from every country that I visit (though I have to go back to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg because I forgot to get a T-shirt from there), and I also grabbed a beer glass because if there is one thing that the Belgiums are good at, other than beer, chocolate, and fries of course, and that is making glasses to serve their beer in. The problem was that the glass lasted until two weeks after I returned home and then suddenly broke, which was really annoying. However, as for this shop, well, it really isn't all that fantastic and there isn't anything that sets it apart from all the other gift shops about the place.

As a teenager in the 80s I had quite the collection of Smurfs and of course I had to buy some on this journey. This is totally a touristy thing to do and I do t even care. No shame. I loved every minute of it. I have a friend who lived in Brussels and took her daughter there weekly to shop. So the locals love it too. Anyway, like any collectible store they have everything from figures and shirts to statues and more. The museum is also a must-visit for any fan. If you're in Brussels, check it out.
