Entering just after 5pm before it was dark!
Gabi M.

On the hunt for a family friendly activity over the weekend, I came across this "Lantern Festival," and it sounded great! Surprisingly, I'd never heard of it before, but according to the website, this festival "promises an unforgettable exploration of global cultures and cuisine," and it's "the largest lantern festival of its kind," so perhaps my expectations were set a bit high? We went in late January and missed the acrobatic show for a sea lion show instead, which I liked, but the rest of my family was more interested in the carnival rides. My kids, 5 and 7, enjoyed the slide, the ferris wheel, the swings, the tilt-a-whirl, and a couple of others... I actually joined them for most of the rides and had fun doing so; I felt like a kid again! We liked the lights too, and they were impressive indeed, but perhaps a tad bit underwhelming compared to the description. There were tons of vendors there selling cool things, but no global cuisine, unless you consider carnival fare like pretzels, corndogs, sno-cones, cotton candy, popcorn, etc... global cuisine. Perhaps that stopped after the busy holiday time? I was disappointed to see that one of the vendors was smoking a cigarette while selling little toys... not the greatest example. We spent just over 2 hours onsite and we had a lot of fun... Not sure if it was $25 worth of fun per person, but it was fund indeed. No regrets! If you are seeing this and looking for a fun family activity, this could definitely be it. It looks like it's an annual affair! Check the website for discounted tickets to save a few $$ if your schedule is flexible!

It's definitely worth for a visit at-least. One time experience to see millions of lights including many recreational activities and sea lion show. Not many but good enough things to eat including American, mexican and Chinese cuisine. Lights and decor arrangements will blow away your mind when you see for first time. Tickets price is all included except vendors selling stuffs or food. Monday Tuesday Wednesday online tickets are cheap ($15 pp) in last 2 weeks. But I noticed that ticket counter were selling for $25 yesterday on sunday. Mono pricing is missing and it seems this place is run by Chinese since all vendors were 80% chinese. Long story short - it's worth for first time visit if you could get discounted tickets.

All the light displays of the countries are grand. At the admission price of $18.00 for adults or purchase discounted tickets at Walgreen's or Groupon. The food kiosks offered an authentic selection of dumpling, soups and desserts. The chili beef noodle soup in broth ($10.00)was delicious. I thought it was too spicy at first but then the heat and the flavor grew on my palate and then I couldn't stop eating it!! My family enjoyed the BBQ pork dumplings, just not my favorite. For an $8.00 additional cost per ticket, the Chinese acrobat show was the highlight of the night for us. It made the 47 min. drive worth it for us.

A great holiday event. Tons of great light displays and beautiful decor to help create the beauty behind the holidays. We got to enjoy the Chinese acrobat show. I definitely recommend everyone to watch this especially if your with kids. The show, stunts, tricks and entertainment are all shocking. You will be watching on the edge of your seat. They have a few rides and a couple carnival type food stands on one side. The other side is filled with Chinese food stands, a couple Mexican stands and a few other fill ins. They don't let you pay cash though for anything, you have to get a cash card and pay with that. You do get your money back though if you don't use the entire amount you put on the card. Also, be mindful they don't really speak English well so the service is pretty slow. We had the beef noodle soup which was so good!!! We also had the steamed buns which were super fresh. I would definitely go back!

It was a nice experience to say I did it, but I don't think it's something I would recommend or do again. There really wasn't any music playing and in some areas if you're trying to purchase drinks or food you needed to buy a card and load it with money. Then if you went to a different side of the lights you could not use the card there and had to pay cash. That was dumb in my opinion and they had no signage explaining this which was even more annoying. Some areas also did not have the best presentation either, but others were better. They did have a few activities to play which was entertaining not only for the kids but for me as well lol Ohhh and they charge for parking too which I think they should have not done.

Tips to saving $$: 1. Decide to go on a Monday for $9.69 & buy tickets online (you have to punch in a special code you can find online) 2. Park on the street (albeit you'll have to walk maybe ~5-10min) but save $10 Highlights: 1. Lots of instagram/ snapchat-worthy light displays but trying to get your face lit up was kind of challenging 2. The porta potties are actually pretty clean & they are placed everywhere along with hand sanitizing stations 3. Chinese food! There were hand pulled noodles, dumplings, pork buns and a lot of different foods - all really good. And they had unique desserts as well - like cotton candy shaped like flowers and intricate candy art My friend and I spent ~2 hrs there, which was more than enough time to look at everything. We didn't go on any rides or play carnival games. It wasn't too crowded when we went 7-9PM either. But if you want photos with no one else around, I would suggest taking them 9-10PM when all the kids and families go home. Bring cash and lots of dollar bills so you can make your life easier purchasing items. And bring a nice warm jacket since it does get colder at night!

Trip around the world at fraction of the cost! Lots of lights and lanterns with landmarks from around the world. My BFFs and I made it to a ladies night out this week and we really had a great time there. The best part was acrobatics show. This show alone is worth the cost of admission. Well trained Chinese performers on stage were truly amazing. Be sure to arrive the stage area early if you would like to sit. Acrobatic Show Schedule | Mon-Thu 7:00PM, 8:30PM | Fri-Sun 6:00PM, 7:30PM, 9:00PM. They have plenty of food vendors between lantern area and carnival. Some traditional fair food but many Chinese vendors. I enjoyed some dim sum and noodle soup. They had cotton candy shaped like flower, arts made of candy, boba drink, and so on. Some displays are made of recycled materials such as cans and plastic bottles. Very interesting. These lanterns are well made, I enjoyed admiring their work. Cash only, be sure to bring extra. Admission is $25 plus tax. Parking is $10. Carnival does require separate tickets for rides & games. It was a good alternative to the traditional zoo lights. Limited time only until end of January.

Lights of the World - nice to walk around and enjoy pretty lights. My favorite was the United States Capitol and the pretty flowers. My bf and I had a funnel cake and margarita during a cool magic show. It was a great date night! There is a $10 parking fee. Not many food options so make sure to eat before or after the lights if you're not into fair food. Insider Tip: Purchase your tickets through Groupon for a small discount.

From 2017. Don't expect this in 2018!

Horrible compared to last year, almost as if the AZ State Fair took over from what I thought was a Chinese-sponsored event, like a much scaled-down state fair. Last year: * Long bank of Chinese food vendors with lots of dishes to choose from. * Authentic Chinese artisans - bought a print painted only with the artist's hands! * Light displays of wonders from around the world - Eiffel tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, and a vase made entirely of lighted vases! This year (2018): * Much smaller with less dramatic light displays. * Not much Chinese food but a lot more crappy carnival food (none of the good food from the state fair). * No authentic Chinese artisans, just caricatures and sugar blowing (huh?) * Rides were leftovers from the little kids area of the fair. * Overpriced. Don't waste your money. We walked out and went to an Asian restaurant instead because we were so disappointed.

What a great family friendly way to see some holiday lights, enjoy some carnival rides, eat great food, and all for one low price! Discount tickets available at Food City! There is also a season pass, if you are able to visit more than once. Please dress for cold weather and bring gloves as it gets really chilly at night. All carnival rides are included and you will need cash for parking and certain vendors. A stroller or wagon is highly recommended for little ones. They also have wheelchairs and strollers available to rent. We went after Christmas when the crowds weren't that crazy. I highly recommend to go early (doors open at 5pm) to enjoy the rides and spend the rest of the evening enjoying the lights, the free show, and the variety of food.

This wasn't even the best one, but what a cute design!
Mary Lou N.

I lean more toward a 4 1/2 on this beautiful holiday display. There was so little wrong that I can't even mention those things. I barely remember them, now. The event has A LOT of colorful, bright, and beautifully detailed lighted "blow ups." Pictures don't do it justice. Also, enjoyed the acrobatics show done there. It was entertaining and the whole evening was a pleasant experience. I could have done without the few carnival rides, but they could be what made the whole thing work. I'm not familiar with a display like this. It is truly one of a kind.

The acrobatic show was included with admission and was good considering the age of the acrobats.

The only thing that costs money is the parking which can be up to $20. However, one tip I can give you guys is to find a public place a bit further out to park for free. For instance, the Tempe Westside Multi-Generational Center is a public park/facility that you can park at and it's only a 9 minute walk from the festival. As the name implies, there are a ton of art vendors. If you're not from Tempe, there's even more choices because some of downtown Tempe businesses are open during the event. Also, they've got a great selection of food vendors, snacks, and downtown restaurants to choose from. They even have a free water station to fill up your water. I always suggest bringing a small cooler with water bottles and napkins/wet wipes. So even if you're not a fan of the art, it's still a great place to go to if you're a foodie or want to browse other miscellaneous products. For instance, I got a free massage at a physical therapist booth and SugarBee was giving away free apples at one of the events. It's a great place to go if you want to support local.

I parked in the street the second day and took an Uber. Overall a pleasant event.

The music, the food, and the culture are amazing each time we go. Parking is pretty easy - just find a spot not blocking a driveway in the neighborhood or park at a designated place and ride a shuttle to the church. The main stage is terrific for the musical numbers, and we love the variety of the troupes that come to perform here. Saturdays are typically 10AM-8PM and Sundays are a bit shorter from 10AM-4PM. There is a raffle for numerous prizes and tickets are on sale all day Saturday and Sunday usually until 2 or 2:15 when the drawings happen. We usually buy several raffle tickets but have not been lucky enough to win any of the prizes yet. One favorite part of the annual festival is the combination plate which you can get by paying for food tickets and exchanging those for delicious food. Sausage, cabbage roll, pirogis, and a potato pancake? Yes please. So good. The dates for the festival change each year based on when Lent and Easter are each year. Next year, the festival takes place on April 10-11, 2027. Mark your calendars now.

The festival is only two blocks long, but alot of booths had wheels to spin to get free stuff and alot of free samples of other products too were available. A family and pet friendly event, it is equally welcoming to the physically challenged, I noted. We had an awesome plate of food consisting of two tamales of our choice, damn good refried beans, and rice for $7, which benefited a church. It was so good, we purchased a dozen for $18, which is the set take-home price for all vendors here ($10 for a half dozen). An ample amount of security staff was a reassuring presence here. A large stage featured talented Latino groups and mariachi bands. The hit was one featuring a young boy, child prodigy, on an acordian with his family. They serve alcohol, which requires a free wristband received after presentation of an ID staing that you are over 21 (required for any age). This is a great event. Period. My husband and I have this on next year's calendar for sure.
