Based on knowing the breed's challenging traits, the vet used effective techniques to handle my shiba and successfully completed the task at hand. The vet spent quite a bit of time in the examination room getting to know my dog, to get my dog acclimated and to stay calm. Great and thorough communication with the staff all around, from the front desk to the intake and examination. Literally, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders regarding a veterinary clinic that knows how to handle a shiba inu and that my dog's needs are met. Thank you so very much Animal Hospital

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after losing my male eastern indigo snake, "Indica", I feel…read moreobligated to share my experience so other exotic pet owners can make an informed decision. I brought Indica to Animal Hospital of Sebastopol because I specifically wanted an experienced reptile veterinarian for a federally threatened species. Before scheduling, I asked how the urgent drop-off process worked and was told I would receive updates during the day regarding the doctor's findings and treatment recommendations. I also asked to make sure the vet felt comfortable treating a rare & valuable species. When I dropped him off, I explained that I work in healthcare as a medical receptionist and cannot answer phone calls while checking in patients. I specifically told the staff I would be available during my lunch break from 12:20-1:20 p.m. and asked that, outside of that window, they leave me a voicemail or send me a text if they needed anything. Instead, I received no communication at all. By around 4:15 p.m., I became worried enough to step away from work while a coworker covered my desk so I could call the hospital. I was placed on hold multiple times, transferred between staff members, and no one could tell me whether my snake had even been seen. My frustration was never that emergency patients came first. I understand triage. My frustration was the complete lack of communication despite being told I would receive updates and despite providing multiple ways to reach me. I was also charged for sexing my snake without anyone telling me beforehand there would be an additional fee. That charge was only removed after I questioned it. When I spoke with Dr. Annabelle, I repeatedly told her that I appreciated her fitting my snake into her schedule and understood emergency patients came first. I was never asking her to stop treating another patient. However, when I expressed concerns about the lack of communication and told her I did not believe this was simply a bad shed, I felt dismissed. The conversation focused on how she sees approximately 15 patients a day, that she couldn't interrupt anesthetized procedures for a stable snake, that this is how urgent drop-off appointments work, and that she texted me "when she could." The problem was that the text wasn't sent until after I had already called the hospital because I was worried and couldn't get answers from anyone. Afterward, I emailed the practice manager. The billing discrepancy was corrected, but I had to follow up separately just to obtain my snake's records. I was then told they felt I should seek another veterinary hospital. As Indica's condition worsened, I emailed Animal Hospital of Sebastopol again asking for medical guidance because Dr. Annabelle was the only veterinarian who had physically examined him. I explained that I had followed the treatment plan exactly and desperately needed to know whether what I was seeing was expected. That email was never answered. I ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize Indica. The day after he was gone, UC Davis called asking my permission to send his records to Animal Hospital of Sebastopol because AHOS had requested them. It was devastating to learn they had time to contact another veterinary hospital regarding my snake's case while never responding to my final plea for help. I later received a second opinion from UC Davis, where I was informed that the original diagnosis from Animal Hospital of Sebastopol was not the correct diagnosis, just as I had predicted. Based on my experience, I would never trust Animal Hospital of Sebastopol with another exotic animal. If you own an exotic pet and your instincts tell you something isn't right, don't be afraid to seek a second opinion. I only wish I had done so sooner.

Was contacted by the vet assistant/ "office manager" , Louis, that I had been rude to the receptionist . He was unprofessional and very inapprorpate in how he handled this. He was aggressive, rude and never asked me for my recollection of said two occurrences. Not willing to listen when I tried to ask about it or suggest my rememberence. Was told this was now "in my file", and was basically on probation, like a schoolchild. I was never rude nor did I use profanity, which I was accused of. Don't understand why this happened. I do recall that the receptionist was annoyed that I called to change a "walk in " and I (politely) asked for an appointment. She acted inconvenienced. I still was not unkind. I responded to the office manager that I would find another vet for the future and he said " good". To add further insult, I then received an email that they were "terminating my services , due to inappropriate behavior etc etc". I told them I would not return - why did they need to send that to me ? He needs training regarding the proper way to handle situations like that In the future. I do not recommend their services.

I felt that he was quick to judge owners as being uneducated or to suggest they should not own their pets instead of focusing on educating them or working toward the best outcome for the animal. I also observed behavior that, in my opinion, showed less willingness to provide care for certain patients once he formed a negative opinion of either the pet or its owner. From my perspective, his attitude toward an owner sometimes seemed to influence how he interacted with the case, which I found concerning. I believe veterinarians should treat every patient with professionalism, compassion, and respect regardless of their personal opinions about the owner. This is a horrible place do not recommend what so ever.

I have trusted Dr. Crippen with the care of my cats for over 8 years now. Reasons why Dr. Crippen is great- 1. Thorough exam. I've never been to a vet that has provided an exam and assessment as thorough as Dr. Crippen. She listens to their heart, lungs, checks their throat, clips their nails, checks and cleans their ears, checks their teeth, draws their labs, and takes their urine! She does it all on her own, takes her time, asks you questions. I feel like she's really paying attention to the physical status of my cat. As a nurse I have an understanding of the importance of a very thorough exam, so this is noticed. 2. She is honest and straightforward. She won't add fluff or beat around the bush. She is there to be your pet's doctor first and foremost. 3. She is also friendly and fun to talk to! Dr. Crippen is an interesting person with a great memory. She won't forget details about your life and will take the time to chat with you during your visit! 4. Fair and affordable prices. 5. Available appointments. 6. Friendly office staff. 7. She WILL tell you your pet is fat, yes, many of us are over feeding our house pets and we need to hear it for the sake of their health. This should be appreciated. 8. She is caring and you can just "tell" she loves animals. She is always educating me on the latest treatments for various elder cat ailments, so that's how you know she keeps up to date. I will be devastated if she ever leaves practice, I don't think I could trust another vet like I trust her.
