These guys rule! I completed the LanguageCorps program in Cambodia, and had an amazing time. The program was really intensive, and a ton of work, but it was well worth it. The instructors were very experienced and knowledgeable, and did a great job imparting their knowledge on us. In addition to teaching me how to look at English from a teaching perspective (rather than a speaking perspective), and some great exercises and tricks of the trade, they helped show me around town, and learn some basic Khmai. I had a job lined up by my third week of class (they help you with this, but be prepared to work hard at finding a job, because they won't do it for you). More importantly, the people in the class with me were amazing, and are some of the coolest people I know.
So yeah, I think the LC program kicks butt. Without it I never would have come to Cambodia, had the time of my life teaching and travelling all over SE Asia, and never would have founded my company Cambodian Threads, which has been the most rewarding experience of my life. We sell Fair Trade, hand-woven, Cambodian silk scarves, made by a family of Khmai weavers on silk Island. The proceeds go towards providing impoverished Cambodian schoolchildren with the necessities for an education that they would otherwise not be able to afford.
So if you're looking to teach abroad, check out LanguageCorps, and if you're interested in buying a scarf and improving the lives of some truly special and needy children, check out Cambodian Threads! read more
