It is very enjoyable and whether it is your first time or your 100th time visiting the Hazel Folk Art Gallery you will find yourself spending hours listening to the hilarious and sometimes incredible folk tales of Glenn Earl Newman! He grew up in the Louisiana bayou, in Cajun country, and his tales reveal the countless adventures he had with his best friends, his family, and the numerous "swamp critters" that will have you bent over laughing! Like any great folk artist, Glenn is able to bring to life each of his drawings for a truly memorable experience. He is also very fond of the military. Loves to hear a story or two and to tell one of his own. His own son served in the Army as a Green Beret before passing in 2003. He has over 1500 pieces of art that are all hand drawn. He also has other work ranging from murals, gourd art, and whittles. His gallery also has pieces from other artist as well-(clay pots, portraits, wire art, etc). The garage-turned-art gallery is a tight fit and not large enough to display all of his art. Depending on the weather, it can be hot/cold inside. Also there is a lot of tidbits that he sells as well such as books, jewelry, glassware. Be sure to sign in on his guest book when you first walk in. It's fascinating to know people from all over the world has seen his gallery; Australia, Hungary, Germany, Canada, India, brazil, are just a few that popped out when I scanned the guest book. Lastly, don't be shy to take pictures, ask questions or tell stories of your own! If you have kids they will really enjoy his Folk Tales and will brag to their friends about the swamp critter gang in their low rider Cadillac or the fearsome half goat half alligator Mutantgator! Regardless of the tale, you will be glad you stopped by the Hazel Folk Art Gallery!

Sadly a storm took out the electricity to the toy house and he isn't permitted to fix it because the electric is connected to the house and the town said he has to upgrade all the electric in the house, which he and his wife don't have the means for right now. When he had electricity a lot of the toys would move and contraptions on the property had lights and water on some of them. The toys stretch back to the 1940s. Definitely a trip down memory lane. The gentleman who owns it is very nice and came out to give us a tour and pointed out the many puns related to the displays. The little general store his grandparents ran back in the early half of the 1900s is still standing and full of interesting memorabilia and artifacts. It's donations only, no cost, but the man and his wife can use the help. If you're not a fan of weird junk art and old toys, you probably wouldn't like it. We spent about 45 minutes there.
