He is consistently the best price in town but more importantly he is corteous, friendly, reliable and meticulous. He seems to make a point of over-delivering. He is the best VALUE in town. I would recommend TJ for any masonry or tile job. He had a team of people to support him with our tile job and they worked like a machine. First TJ adds value with input on stone, grout and trim. He arrives as scheduled to a) rip up our multiple layers of old flooring, b) add the appropriate height backerboard to get our tile to the proper height, c) lay tile so we could walk around our kitchen and hallway as he worked, d) grout and e) clean-up. This was no easy assignment - more than 300 sf of tiling with some crazy cuts to our flooring that stretched from our front entry foyer to our hallway and into our kitchen.

Inside the fireplace, grout had all but disappeared on the back / angled wall and several fire bricks were loose. Timeline of events: Sent an email to Ben with pictures and a description of the problem on a Friday at 3:12 PM. He called me at 5:15 PM that evening asking if he could visit to see the job and offer me an estimate, he came by at 5:44 PM, and after reviewing and carefully describing the work needed to repair, he offered his proposal which I accepted. AND the VERY NEXT DAY, a SATURDAY mind you, he and his son arrived at 8:00 AM and the job was completed by 3:00 PM. So literally WITHIN 24 HOURS Ben The Mason had responded to my request, came by to see the job, offered a quote, and did the repairs. I had noticed that a support column on my porch had been leaning and buckling outward. Upon further investigating the issue it turned out that the extent of the damage was greater than appeared on the surface as the post had completely rotted through, the wall had pulled away from the deck and the foundation underneath had crumbled. Despite the amount of work involved, John remained honest and fair as he provided me with several options and worked with me and my budget to get the best result possible to meet both my expectations as well as his high standard of quality. I am beyond pleased with the final outcome! They managed to get the entire side of the porch torn down, the foundation properly repaired and then have it all rebuilt and tied back into the existing stairs and porch within just a few days. If you are in need of any masonry, carpentry or decking work I can't recommend Tough Build Masonry enough. They were honest, hard working and kept me in the loop throughout the entire process. I absolutely intend to call them in the future for any projects. Thank you, John!

The project took about a week to complete, which was faster than initially expected, and the quality of the work was exceptional. I've been an architect for 30 years so I've inspected a lot of construction work and I can honestly say that the retaining wall exceeded my expectations in every way. I expected to get a replica of the original wall but got something far better in both appearance and quality. The team of masons were courteous and finished the project without skipping any days. They also cleaned up every day and left my yard cleaner than they found it when the project was finished. All of my immediate neighbors have complimented me on the wall and I expect to get many more when boating season on the lake begins next May. I solicited multiple bids for the wall project and selected AJ Masonry because they were the most informative and responsive to changes related to the Lynn Conservation Commission and Building Department. I live in an 1850's updated farmhouse outside of Newburyport, MA. I hired mike initially in 2023 to replace a large wooden gutter and freeze board on my home. I'm particular and wanted to make sure we kept the new work in keeping with the character and of our home. Mike and team nailed it. I hired Mike again in September of 2026 replace all the wooden trim around the windows in the back of our house with PVC. I hesitated to touch one window trim because it had a very lovely, original molding. All the other windows in the back were replaced with plain, flat stock by the gentleman who renovated the home prior to our purchase. To my surprise and delight Mike and his supervisor Odie took it upon themselves and chose to replicate the original molding from the window mentioned, on all of the windows surrounds they replace! There was no up-selling just a very thoughtful, generous value add. Now the back of our home looks exponentially better thanks to Mike and team. They will continue to be our go-to contractors as we update our home's exterior and roofing. I highly recommend Meadow's Construction.
