Mercedes is on a different level! Literally. 4 or 5 floors, I can't remember but you take these cool little lifts to the top floor and work your way down. I love museums and especially car museums when the earliest designs are only slightly better than walking with an 8kmph top speed! The top is the early vehicles and you walk down to get what resembles a vehicle. Then as you descend, note and note recognizable vehicles. Also, kudos to both, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz for not skipping history (looking at you 30s-40s) regardless of the travesties, it's part of their history. Meanwhile the US is trying to erase their not so stellar histories. But I digress. If you love cars AND history, you could literally spend an entire day looking at the development of various MB cars, busses, engine cutaways, and more. 100% recommend if you're in Stuttgart. Bonus points for a Cars and Coffee event going on during our visit. Love seeing people living older cars and preserving history!

We hadn't yet dreamed that we'd be in a position to own a Porsche sports car. We are currently proud owners of a 2014 Cayman S. Since becoming Porsche owners and joining the Porsche Club of America, we have become strongly connected to the brand. This beautiful museum and the factory tour strengthens the connection. I have learned a ton about Porsche history and specifications so that I can crush our local tech quizzes, but I still learned new things from the signs for the cars on exhibit. I booked a factory tour for us many months in advance of our visit, and it was fantastic. We did the regular museum in the morning, then went back to our airbnb and had lunch. Resting up was key to us having the energy and attention for the factory tour and for walking through the museum one more time with fewer people around. I highly recommend this museum, and we'll be back.

They even have a pig peep show it was hilarious. People may think why should I go to a pig museum why not. It doesn't take long to tour the museum so it's not an all day event. We were greeted by a very pleasant docent who helped us navigate the Old vs. New art in the museum. Every room has signs in German and English which I greatly appreciated. We quickly walked through the old stuff on a floor just to work ourselves over the Modern art collection. One aspect of the older work that I appreciated was seeing the artwork of local Stuttgart residents-- these are artists that never made it to my art history classes. I will go back the next time I am in Stuttgart to see the OLD stuff, hoping there is a Durer in there somewhere. The art here was by artists I was familiar with but all of the works were new to me. I was in art heaven. Modigliani, Mondrian, Franz Marc, George Grosz, Kurt Schwitters, Otto Dix, Joseph Beuys. There were just so many lovely surprises here. We luckily used the Google translate option that translates pictures (recommend for overseas trips). Otherwise you would not be able to read anything. The way the museum lays out the exhibits is the best part. You move through time and see fossils, which are then depicted in a scene. The scenes are extremely realistic and they allow you to get up close. I truly enjoyed seeing all of the exhibits and wished only that there were more tranlastions with the captions.

You know what a beer coat is, right?) but plenty of time to enjoy the season! Schlossplatz is the largest open square in the city and dates back to the 1800's when it was built as a parade ground. There is a very crowded Christmas market here with security checking COVID passes at the entrance. A little too dense with people for me so we walked the square and took pictures. Absolutely perfect!
