First off, no lines. And if you manage to find the south entrance off of Harney Street, you don't even have to go through security. Wow. Second off, the local government staff was helpful. I mean it still took about 45 minutes longer than was really necessary -- which is to be expected -- but I actually walked out of there feeling like I had accomplished something. And it only cost me $1 more than I was anticipating. I hopefully will never have to come back here, but for what it's worth, a 3-Star experience at county courthouse is about as good as it gets.

This is a one of a kind place worth visiting. It was a revolving prison that was used from 1885 to…read more1969. It had 3 floors of pie-shaped cells inside a cage. The fourth floor was where the jailer and his family lived. The staff were very nice and knowledgeable about the place. This is not free but your $10 is definitely worth it. Their small gift shop (also were you check in) has shirts, pins, and magnets. This is walking distance from the Union Pacific Railroad Museum which is also another place to see in Council Bluffs.

Most of…read morethe urban court buildings I've been to, you have to pass through a metal detector and have your stuff x-rayed, and God help you if you have a pocket knife. But not here. There are no metal detectors anywhere. You just walk in, conduct your business and walk out, easy as pie. This building contains the county courts as well as most of the other county functions, such as treasurer, clerk, register of deeds, surveyor and commissioners. It also houses the county probation offices and the local DMV.

The officers at the doors scanning persons and belongings are welcoming and efficient. The majority of the staff smile when they pass you in the hallway and the ones behind the glass helping you are pleasant and efficient. Judge Palms handled the chaos of his court room with practiced efficiency. I'm not sure who the gentleman at one of the tables was but his knowledge of more than two languages was amazing. I'm not sure how much of the various languages he knew, but he was able to ask and then direct individuals that the court would get an interpreter to help them. He also somehow managed to do two jobs at the same time. It's like he had two brains, four ears and two mouths. Maybe some extra hands. I was very impressed.

They are…read morenot only rude but they are downright lying to citizens and property owners about the increase in property taxes. They downright refused to give this man a form to even fill out. This is when I stepped in and said you can not deny him this right, I suggest you give him the proper paperwork to fill out. You ladies do not make the final call and outcome.. The referee does. The guy who had never been through this before was just about to listen to them that if he opposed the raise and lost then they would raise his property taxes even higher than stated. Once again, I said that's a lie and why are y'all lying to everyone? Well one of the guys working had security on the radio so they could listen to what was going on. Then all of a sudden the main lady who worked there tried to jump over the counter at me but then decided to use the side door, followed by 3 other workers... one female, and two males. The main lady came running at me with her hand in a fist. This was 4 people against little. I was trying to get away when one lady yelled at me to GTFO... upon entering the first floor where the guards were, I said to them, wow what is up with those bags up on the next floor, they kicking me out. All the guards said, yes they are bitches, we get soo many complaints about them all the time... and they always ring for help for a storm they start. The lady had heard this n said he buzzed down for assistance. The 4 of the guards said, we watched everyone who went up and we listened to the whole thing over the radio. It didnt call for us to leave our post. Hire new fresh kind replacements

Both sides have a ticket system and you just wait for your number to be called. Im usually in and out in 15 mins tops. All employees that have helped me have been courteous and friendly. Building is kept clean and there is a bathroom available which is also kept clean.
