With that said, I came here to Pu'unui community park pretty much out of the blue, just to check things out. With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing, it helps the individual to be outdoors and enjoy while also being mindful about the social distancing and wearing the face mask too. I arrived here on a Sunday afternoon after commuting from Waikiki around 3pm on a cloudless May 2020 day. The park itself was quite small with a sizable open space for a baseball field and a space to play any sports imaginable. There's also a basketball court that is sort of enclosed in a building type structure. There's also a building that may or may not be a multi-use building of some sort. Not sure if there are public restrooms available on property, since I tried to find one, but didn't seem to locate one during my experience here. I was the only person there during my stay here and spent about 1 hour here enjoying the area and seeing this side of residential Liliha through its community park. It's nice that there was no visible homeless issues here during my time here and the ambiance was quite nice and also quiet. The park itself was basically nice and maintained by the good folks at the City and County of Honolulu Parks department. The overall experience here at Pu'unui community park was nice, although somewhat inadequate. There was no place to sit down like a bench or anything I saw. Sitting on concrete steps or leaning against the wall was my only options during my stay here. Maybe they took the benches away because of COVID-19 pandemic, which could be the case. I spent my time h ere at this park by looking around, walking the perimeter a bunch of times to kill the time and to get in the usual exercise, and trying to find the restroom facility - but to no avail. I enjoyed the ambiance of this quiet park nestled in the quiet Liliha district of urban Honolulu. It's so quiet that hardly any traffic buzzed through the area while I was there. It is pretty cool that there is a basketball court for those who enjoy the game as well as the baseball diamond. For myself though, walking around the perimeter works best and had a nice time doing so. If you are in the area and want a place to relax on a weekend or after a day at the office, consider making a stop here at the Pu'unui community park before you head on home. As with many community parks around the island, it's the second best thing to the ocean to de-stress after a tough day at the office. Pu'unui community park is located at 2555 Puunui Avenue in the heart of Liliha. As all community and neighborhood parks go, there is no admission fee required to gain access to its grounds. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, parks were previously closed to the public, but this order was lifted in late April 2020 to help support physical exercise and wellbeing for all citizens. So, you can come here (and any park) for your workouts - just no picnics or other non-physical exercise related activity. Many of y'all drive, so parking options are basically limited to any open residential parking spots you can find and park there. If you are like me, there's only 1 bus route that comes here and that's route 13. There's one other bus route that services the upper Liliha area, but it doesn't come close to this community park. That route is 10. There are routes 1L, 2, and 2L, but they only run on North School Street and Liliha. Best bet would be to bus it on the 13 really. For the most part though, finding solace can be found here at Pu'unui community park. Youth team games are played here as well as evening pick up basketball games with the locals. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Open spaces are your friends! And its free! Support local! A+

Buwahahahahaha! J/k!). The park itself features a very large "green grass field" which I find most times is used for soccer activities. This park also has a basketball court, a jungle gym apparatus so that the little ones and play & have fun. There is also a restroom, picnic tables & park benches on the park premises. Parking is available, as there is a private parking lot. If the parking lot is full, there is lots of free street parking along the perimeter of the park. With all that's going on during this difficult time, I'm glad the City & County of Honolulu reopened the parks recently, as it gives us a place to exercise and to escape from our lock down in our homes.

There is a good group of dudes not in their 20s (thankfully) that play on a regular basis and who all seem to know each other. I've been three times in the last week and will continue to come here as much as I can for the rest of my time here. I'm thankful to have free gym access. Something like Kaimuki Middle School where the Kilauea park complex is right next door to it in Kahala. With that said, Kaulauwela Elementary school is the public school that is that elementary school that this community park is named for. Not much to this park though. Just feels like an extended playground for the kids who go to school here and for the community to play and relax here too. Located within the Kaulauwela Elementary School, this community park is centrally placed off of Liliha Street in the heart of Kalihi. With the Liliha Public library parked in front of Liliha Street and Liliha Square shopping center on the other side, the quiet street of Kaulauwela Place, right next to the public bus stop and right next to the H-1 East freeway entrance on the right. I guess nobody really notices in the course of daily life, but if you are in need of a respite from all the hustle and bustle of city living, playing basketball may be the best fit for you here at this community park. Might not call this a community park though, since it does sit within elementary school property. Although I do see signage that tells me otherwise, I can't be too sure nowadays. This community park can be forgotten within the grand scheme of things, but the kids use this community resource as a means to enrich their lives by being socially and physically active. That's what kids needs to do. Grow and be nurtured while learning the basics that will shape their lives in the future - which includes years of dreadful schooling. There are water fountains here as well as well maintained playground equipment here, so there is really no excuse to come and rekindle your inner child here once in a while. I remember swinging on a swing and it brought back vivid memories. It was great! Hoping to be back soon, but with the fast pace of life, I doubt it. It can be problematic here at night, so best be careful. I haven't been around at night, but be aware of your surroundings and you should be alright. I wouldn't be caught dead in Kalihi or anywhere late at night, so there is probably a homeless problem there - along with some sort of drug thing too. Come enjoy during the day and its all good. Help rekindle the inner child that you may or may not have lost and you'll find yourself in better happier days. Playing basketball helps too. This community park is adequately maintained, so there's not much you can say about being dirty. It's good. Support local! B

We have the most luck tiring her out at the playground here. We have no other family on island and since our daughter has not been to daycare since the start of pandemic, playtime opportunities with playmates are slim. She misses playing with other kids and we have the best luck coming to this park since many people in the community bring their kids here to play. We feel safe here because most parents are more attentive to their children here compared to other playgrounds we have tried going to. We have been to others where parents paid no attention to their children even if they were misbehaving or being abusive to other children. We also have not experienced any random individuals loitering at this park, which also provides a sense of safety. Aside from the playground, the park has tennis courts, basketball courts, and baseball diamonds. This park gets a lot of traffic, but not too much. The tennis courts and basketball courts seem to always be used, but since there are no lights, those courts can't be used at night. The playground gets some light but not too much, so once it is past twilight we get going.
