Fantastic meal at Gero restaurant, located inside the Fasano Hotel in Ipanema on the street level,…read moreadjacent to the main check in lobby. I have been coming to Rio for more than 20 years and ate at Gero when it was located in central Ipanema back in 2005. To be honest, I was unimpressed with the restaurant then but on my most recent visit at the current location I was extremely pleased. Nice ambiance with professional staff. I normally am not a fan of having to pay for bread but have to say this on site baked bread, served with a pesto and cream cheese sauce, was sensational and worth it. I did not need an appetizer but ordered the lamb pappardelle which also was terrific. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the lamb was very tasty. I enjoyed a nice glass of Compadre Malbec with my meal which was a very reasonable $8 US/glass. For dessert I selected the tiramisu upon my waiter's suggestion. Gero, like the Fasano Hotel, runs special promotions through American Express; as a cardholder, my dessert was provided at no cost. Total bill with tip came to $67 US--quite reasonable considering the quality of the food. Overall, a great dining experience and I will gladly return.

With your cocktails, they bring out several types of homemade breads and bread sticks with various dips, butter, and olive oil to use. All delicious! We shared the beef carpaccio appetizer to start. It was pretty good, but not great and a bit of a small portion for two. Our entrees were both excellent. I had the special Quail, cooked down to a ragu, over gnocchi. Very rich, but superb flavor and texture. I highly recommend if they have it available. My wife had the grilled lobster with linguini pasta with a white sauce on the side. It was so delicious. They make the pasta to order, so it make take a slightly more wait than expected, but not long. For dessert, we tried another special - the warm homemade lemon curd cake, served with vanilla ice cream on the side. The waiter suggested we try the cashew ice cream and we agreed, but we should have stuck to the vanilla. The cashew ice cream was not the taste we wanted. However, great service, delightful atmosphere, and a wonderful evening experience. Highly recommend.

We then placed the order for our apps and main course - suppli (arrancini kinda starters) and mushroom truffle pasta and Pesce del giorno (seafood). The food was delicious. Seafood was fantastic and the pasta with truffle sauce was great. We then had to wait a long time to even place the order for the dessert - tiramisu. When the dessert arrived it was fantastic and one of the best tiramisus I have ever had. After this we had to wait for more than 15 mins just for the check. While the food is good, the service is slow. We arrived at 6:45 and left at 9:05pm - so you do the match. This place can get busy during peak dinner hours. All in all good food and I can see why they got the michelin stars a few years.

I walked to this place and there was a gentlemen at the tent waiting to greet people. Then a lady working the front desk open the door for me so I think she was the host. I got the 609 Medaglione with targone salsa, I asked for the targone salsa on the side and used a English to Translator app since the waiter couldn't understand me. He never asked how I wanted my steak cook so I was interested to see how it comes out. I also ordered a coke for my drink. The food did take a while to come out but it was worth it. The filet mignon was cooked to medium rare and I actually like the targone sauce. The bacon was in the sauce so be aware of that. The gratin potato I thought was decent, just needed salt and ketchup but my overall meal was delicious. The service here was fine for me and I'm pretty sure they knew I'm American. We tried the assorted bread basket (not complimentary) which had an assortment of tasty breads. We also tried the arancini and the bruschetta. The bruschetta was the real star here and featured three types - pear, tomato, and mushroom. The pear was unique and actually truly delightful. The arancini was decent but nothing too amazing. I had the penne bolognese entree. Very tasty sauce, but the pasta seemed a bit undercooked and had a bit of a chew to it. For dessert we tried the tiramisu.
