Today I went to see Sara for a health issue because my doctor had no earlier appointments. Once again the same thing had happened leading me to leave this comment for future patients. It was another appointment where Sara tries to rush you out of the office. Sara continued to shut down anything I tried to say regarding the medical issue. Sara has a direct approach and I get that but this does not work for everyone. I tried to discuss over the past week my medical issue leading up to my visit and Sara continued to shut down what I was saying. Saras response to me was "so what are your symptoms today" then cuts me off again while I'm speaking and continues to say "so what are your symptoms today". I took time off work to be seen and looked for help from a medical professional. Patients should feel heard not shut down. This experience was awful and really uncomfortable.

For those not familiar with this, its a lifelong skin condition that causes inflamed, dry patches on your skin. Unfortunately, every blue moon (a phrase that my mom likes to use) I have a small flare up around my nose. Of course situations like this always occur around the time that you have to attend a special event. In this case, my wife and I have a small San Diego/Las Vegas trip quickly approaching. Previously, I have been prescribed medicine for seborrheic dermatitis through my physician, Dr. Sara Dougherty. Due to the fact that I was out of refills, I was under the impression that I would have to schedule a regular checkup in order to have Dr. Dougherty prescribe a refill. Fortunately, one of the office assistants suggested that she could send a request for Dr. Dougherty to prescribe a refill without me having to physically visit the office. Within 2 hours Dr. Dougherty had sent the prescription to my local CVS! Talk about efficiency! Thank you to Dr. Sara Dougherty and her awesome team! Now I can walk around confidently, Seborrheic Dermatitis-free!

Horrible experiences. If possible, try to find a different Sutter office or try to get insurance…read morefor Kaiser or UC Davis Medical Center. This Sutter location refuses to let me schedule appointments and insists I have to wait months to see my David Lin, my PCP. This terrible location intentionally only offers appointments through PAs to save money, and the PA that does work at this location, Rachel Basulto, gives terrible medical advice and rushes appointments. For example, I have family history with metastatic melanoma (skin cancer). My mother passed away from it, and three other close family members were diagnosed, yet I was told by this Sutter clinic that this doesn't matter and there's no point in worrying about cancer but they would refer me to a derm. They didn't. And then they refused to give me a referral. When I asked other family members, they said all their doctors/PCPs insist they get checked annually by a derm. Funny that Sutter doesn't think I should do the same. During another appointment, I was having chronic neck pain, and instead of listening to me and trying to diagnose me, I was just given a generic printout of helpful "flexibility exercises." lol. ok. Also, when I had a routine physical here, I was told that they scheduled an appointment at the Sutter Lab next door for bloodwork. lol nope. I was lied to and had to go to a different location. Amazing customer service here. Sutter also got my medical records mixed up with another person (doesn't this violate HIPAA? LMFAO) and locked me out of my online Sutter Health account because of it. Avoid at all costs.

I have been a patient at this practice for approximately five years and unfortunately had a very…read moredisappointing experience during my visit on 2/11. I came in for significant back pain. At check-in, I was informed of my $15 co-pay and an additional $90 outstanding balance that I was unaware of. I explained that I had not received any bill or notification and asked for time to contact my insurance provider to confirm the charge before paying. I made it clear I was not refusing to pay -- I simply wanted to verify the billing. While I was in the process of calling my insurance company, I was called back by a staff member who took my vitals, including my blood pressure and weight. I was then seated in the exam room to wait for the provider. Only after I had completed my vitals and was already in the exam room did Dr. Scarlett Lu enter. Instead of beginning the appointment, the focus immediately shifted to the $90 balance. Dr. Lu stated she would not begin the visit until it was paid. I again explained that I was willing to pay if the charge was valid but had never been notified of it. Rather than discussing it calmly, she stated that she was confident I had seen the bill and was avoiding payment. As a long-term patient with no prior billing issues, I found this assumption both surprising and inappropriate. Scarlett even rose her voice at me, to a point where I had to ask her, "why are you raising your voice when we are having a civil conversation?" This conversation occurred while the door was partially open, which felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. Given the severity of my back pain, I paid the balance so I could proceed with the appointment. Afterward, I checked my MyChart account, which showed a $0 balance. So, I went back to her office, knocked on the door and showed her MyChart. She looked at my phone and was shocked. When I brought this up, I was told that billing is separate from MyChart. She then proceed to apologize to me, "I am sorry I got mad" in the most un-remorseful tone. Almost like a child who was forced to apologize. While I understand systems can differ, the issue for me was not the billing itself -- it was the accusatory and dismissive manner in which I was treated. Healthcare visits can already be stressful, especially when you are in pain. Patients should feel respected and able to ask reasonable questions without being accused of wrongdoing. Unfortunately, this experience has made me reconsider continuing care here. Her level of empathy and respect towards her patients are little to none.

Avoid Dr. Lu. She is CRAZY and cares more about her ego than her patients. I just saw a post about…read moreher on Nextdoor and finally got the courage to put this here and let other people know my experience with her after processing wth happened. After being a loyal patient for 7 years, I experienced a shocking lack of professionalism. When my insurance changed and I booked a future appointment with a new PCP (as required when setting up my new insurance account, and Dr. Lu was not listed as a covered provider), she left me a scorned, unhinged, and angry voicemail saying I was no longer welcome as a patient. Turns out she was covered by the new insurance, but how would I know that when she's not listed in their network? The only reason she saw this other appointment was because I had to go to the ER for something under my old insurance and she was still my PCP. The ER told me to follow up with my PCP to see a specialist for my issue, and she saw the new insurance/new PCP appointment in my chart. Instead of simply asking me if I was switching doctors and explaining she was covered by my new insurance, she became very hostile and dumped me like I was her spouse and she caught me in bed with someone else. When we spoke and I explained my confusion/not knowing she was covered by my new insurance, she yelled at me, accused me of lying and "doctor shopping," and left me in tears. After profusely explaining the misunderstanding and apologizing to her, she offered to still see me, but I said absolutely not, not after seeing that side of her. Someone more concerned about their bruised ego (over an insurance misunderstanding) than my care and recent trip to the ER has no business being my doctor, or anyone's doctor for that matter. Beyond her volatile temper, in hindsight, she was always very dismissive of my symptoms and concerns. I've since been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and allergies that she refused to investigate at the time. She even suggested I skip a follow-up for an abnormal pap smear. Her office is high-tension, staff are miserable, and her records are never updated in MyChart so it makes it difficult for your specialists to follow your care. Hands down my worst experience with any healthcare provider. I work in healthcare now, and work with a lot of different doctors, and none of them would ever act this way towards patients. As someone who works in healthcare now, stay away from Dr. Lu. She used to be close to 5 perfect stars on here if I remember correctly. It was one of the reasons I picked her back when I found her, but I'm sadly not surprised to see the other negative reviews.

I was turned away and told they had already stopped accepting patients at 7:45 PM. The advice nurse had also tried calling around 7:30 PM and received no answer. What was especially concerning is that the clinic was not busy at all--there were no patients in the waiting area, and staff were sitting at the front. A staff member stated they had already "closed everything up" and were ready to go home. This was not a situation where the clinic was overwhelmed. I arrived before the stated cutoff time and was still denied care. This experience was inconsistent with their posted hours and creates a barrier for patients relying on accurate information to access care. If the clinic chooses to stop accepting patients earlier than advertised, that needs to be clearly communicated.
