Honestly a really great park for people of all ages and hobbies. The main paved area is almost a full mile around. There is a great baseball field with covered seating, softball field, soccer fields, tennis courts, a playground, a splashpad, grills, picnic tables, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, and areas for fishing. You will often see people walking dogs, having family reunions, and having community volleyball nights. There is ample parking all around but is almost not too far from the Kent Trails for anyone wanting to bike in. The park often hosts great events like the summer Tuesday concert series, Trunk or Treat for Halloween, a small fair, and other events. read more

Degage also provides an emergency women's shelter where up to 40 women can stay every night. Sure there are some rules in place, but they are there in order to help patrons grow and learn to be responsible for their actions. Without them the place would not be able to function. In the end, I decided to kick it on the sandy beach and wave at my family as they happily paddled on the lake. They had a great time kayaking. I had a great time not kayaking. Like Hot Chocolate says: Everyone's a winner, baby. Kayaks are either single-person or double, and we used one of each. There are very few instructions given, which was a little alarming to me. (You mean you just assume we know what we're doing?!) But fortunately, my family knew what they were doing, so they didn't need much instruction to get themselves out on the water. As you paddle around the lake, you pass the Millennium Park beach and splash pad, plus little islands here and there. There is about four miles of shoreline to explore. I was told that the lake was nice and calm, and that it was a pleasant time on the water. We rented kayaks, but Millennium Park Boat Rentals also offers canoes, paddle boats and stand-up paddle boards to rent. Keep in mind that rentals are seasonal -- this place is only open from Memorial Day-ish to Labor Day-ish.

Our frustration came entirely from the billing and makeup policies, which ended up being extremely difficult for our family to navigate. With two working parents and young kids, flexibility matters, and unfortunately there really isn't any. When you miss a class, you receive a makeup token, but you can't use it toward billing or apply it to your normal class time. The only option is scheduling an additional class outside your regular slot, essentially asking families to come twice in one week just to avoid losing the value of what they've already paid for. That simply isn't realistic for many families. We communicated with Lauren in the front office, and while communication was polite, there was zero flexibility offered regarding makeup classes or billing options. The policies were presented as non-negotiable, with no alternative solutions for families who simply can't make extra classes work. To make matters worse, makeup credits expire when you end lessons, and you're still required to give 30 days notice, meaning unused credits just disappear. There's no refund option or billing credit, even when circumstances make scheduling extra lessons difficult. The instructors were great, but the rigid policies and lack of flexibility from administration made the overall experience disappointing. For a program serving young kids and busy parents, flexibility should really be part of the model.

The parking lot is a short walk from the pavilion. I liked the patio area overlooking the pond, and all the kids at the party loved the playgrounds! There was a grassy area outside where we set up cornhole. It's $45 per hour to rent the pavilion, with a minimum of 2 hours. Not bad! I'm so glad we got to experience this park and would definitely come back to relax and go for a walk!
