Lamai Thai Massage located along Yonge St. near Snowdon Ave around mid-town Toronto is the place to go to if you want to treat yourself to a Thai massage. Located on the 2nd floor above a Thai restaurant, this place actually became viral on social media as they have a deal where you can get a massage for less than $50 along with a 3 course meal from the Thai restaurant on the ground floor. Lamai Thai Massage is not accessible where there are a set of stairs to climb when you enter.
In terms of services, they offer traditional Thai foot massages, a Thai body massage, a Thai deep tissue massage (with oils), an aromatic massage, hammer tapping massage (toksen), as well as a RMT Swedish or Thai massage (coming soon). They are able to offer their services for 30 min, 45 min, 60 min, 90 min, or 120 min.
I decided to get a Thai massage recently to take advantage of their grand opening week deal (any massage 60+ min would be 50% off). They currently do not offer any RMT services (they likely will in the future though!), so if you have benefits you will not be able to claim this expense.
Booking my massage was fairly easy online on their website. There were only limited dates and times available since others probably were trying to take advantage of their grand opening deals as well. I was able to grab a spot on a Friday afternoon.
Upon entering the space, it is relaxing and tranquil. The flight of stairs to climb is at least 10+ steps so you do have to be careful. The place was busy when I entered as the staff at the front desk was on the phone booking appointments for others. There was another customer ahead of me waiting to speak with staff. A few minutes of waiting 3 other customers came in. I waited about 5 min before staff addressed me (they even first spoke with the customers who came in after me first which kind of confused me a bit since I was waiting first).
The front area does not have a lot of space so when I was finally checked in with staff it was a few minutes after the time of when my massage was supposed to start. The staff did give me slippers and also hung up my jacket for me. I was led to a changing room with a set of clothes to change into. My massage therapist ushered me into a single room shortly afterwards.
I don't normally get Thai massages but the last one I had was likely a year ago. The massage was deep and the therapist definitely attempted to loosen all the shoulder knots I had. There were parts of the massage where she stood on me, massaging my back, arms, and legs. The pressure was great and I did feel more relaxed, less tense, and more relieved afterwards.
Since I did a 60 min Thai massage, my massage was only $50 (with the discount applied).
Overall, a nice experience. The place is likely not used to how popular or busy they got so likely the service will continue to improve over time. I'm curious to try a Thai foot massage next time! read more
