Lake View Spa is a hidden gem of tranquility and elegance one could pass by through the corn fields and not realize they just passed an opportunity to experience what is what we usually perceive is reserved for what one believes is reserved for the more 'posh', exclusive among us, not here. in our beloved farm country of Illinois. This spa opened in June 2005, and is on the other side of the lake from the Oak Terrace Resort. It's nestled in the woods, with a great view of the lake from the full-length windows. The services are so reasonably-priced, I almost stayed for a pedicure after my facial but was pressed for time. Josie did the facial - it was great! My skin was reborn. I don't know if I'd consider it a destination since it's 3 1/2 hours from my home, but it will be part of an inexpensive yet relaxing weekend if you make it. read more

We purchased a coupon through realdealstl.com (similar to groupon) for 2 days all you can play golf and 1 night stay ($60/person). The course was in really nice condition. Its a shorter course with some tight fairways and doglegs. There are some really fun holes on the back, if your playing a scramble they can be really interesting. The restaurant/bar was really nice as well. The food was amazing (Sunday brunch). The rooms were your typical hotel room but were clean and nice. The staff was extremely courteous. Very scenic place and I would go back if another deal was available. If your coming from St. Louis make sure to stock up on food, beer, etc...before you get to Pana because there is literally nothing for miles. read more

I had my bachelorette party here with my mom, future mother-in-law and a few friends. We each had manicures, pedicures and facials or massages. I was not impressed with the manicure and pedicure. In fact, the technician was so aggressive in pushing back my cuticles, that I had a scab for a week on one of my fingers. My friend who had the same technician had a similar painful experience. The technician rushed through our treatments and nail painting and seemed impressed with herself for finishing so quickly. A fast manicure/pedicure does not equal a good manicure/pedicure. The polish chipped within a few days because of the sloppy paint job. The facialist wasn't too bad, but the extractions were a bit painful. All of us agreed that we would not return, especially for the ridiculous prices considering the level of service. read more
