OMG, my wife treated me to birthday by having us stay here this weekend. Well, this place really…read morefeels like a real B&B. We stayed at Rittenhouse Inn last year for her birthday and it was nice. But, this place feels like home away from home with the nice touches of a warm welcome. We left our house after work so got here around 5:30PM on a Friday. Elaine had Sandy greet us and she was most welcoming with pamphlets of things to do. She prepared a local wine and cheese/grape platter while we decided for dinner. Plus, there was a bubbly mango sparkling bottle drink too for my birthday. In our room, she had some of Elaine's chocolate brownies ready for us as well. We ended up going to Swensons' Lake House restaurant only a couple blocks away. It was the best decision and recommendation from Sandy. Afterwards, we got the wine and cheese/grape platter from the fridge to relax in the gazebo. It was a nice a private area which we could enjoy the sunset. It was only the 2 of us in the house so it was nice to have some privacy with the house to ourselves. We woke up in the middle of the night and decided to enjoy some treats in the common area upstairs. We helped ourselves to some crackers and hot cider from Kuerig that Sandy showed us earlier. In the morning, we woke up and Sandy prepared our breakfast. We took a short walk around the lake and then to the church and back. Sandy was ready and served us a 3-4 meal breakfast. It started with a vanilla Greek yogurt parfait with cantaloupe, strawberries, and banana. Next, we had sausage with Havarti eggs and dill which was fantastic with some English muffins and homemade jam. Last, we had a bread pudding with whipped cream and chocolate chips. We finally got some great recommendations for hiking and checked out with Sandy. We enjoyed the wine so much that we visited WineHaven to pick up another bottle of the Stinger honey wine. Also, we picked up some of that local cheese down the road at Eichen that Sandy had for us when we arrived.

NO stars should be an option. Look, it isn't that we expected much from a Super 8 motel, but it's…read morelisted as a 2 star hotel and that's being VERY optimistic for this place. On their BEST day they're a one star property. From the moment you step foot in the lobby you get the feeling that you might have made a poor decision. The lobby is very dated and they clearly put zero effort into making it a welcoming, cozy environment. I don't even know where to start... the service was sub par and very unprofessional, no friendliness at all. The room was their only one with an in room jacuzzi tub so we sprung for double the price of a regular room hoping for a little nicer accommodation. Again - very optimistic and poor decision. The room smelled moldy and old, and the jacuzzi tub was very old and stained with buttons that were literally rotting and falling off from rust. The tv stand was old and leaning to one side and about to fall apart, the tv didn't work and when we called the front desk for anything - it just rang and rang and no one answered. The furniture in the room smelled musty and we put towels over the chairs to sit down because we were so sketched out. The room as well as the property, are clearly never deep cleaned. The walls are thin and I think there are people living there long term because it was very loud at all hours, and a group congregating in the lounge and halls being very loud. We felt as though we were staying in a dorm for the night. We got up and went down at 6:35am for the complimentary breakfast and the place was still dark - even though we were told breakfast was from 6:30-9:30, so we waited an additional 15 min. We were so excited to get some coffee, only to find that at best, it was coffee flavored water. The trash bin (see pictures) was overflowing with garbage from the previous day(s) and smelled rotten. There were trays of semi frozen egg patties and sausage patties that you had to microwave yourself, stale cereal, watered down orange and apple juice and old donuts. There is a waffle machine but they must not ever really clean the griddle because the waffle tasted greasy and metallic, and I think the batter may have been old. The waffle was nasty. We left there and had coffee and breakfast elsewhere. The breakfast area consists of two worn out, rickety tables and chairs from about 1981. And to top it off, we paid a $50 deposit and they kept all of it because I happened to get a bad nose bleed during the night and got three tiny drops of blood on one of their cheap scratchy bath towels. $50 for one towel that they'll bleach and toss right back into the mix. On top of it, my body nose was from the horrible sinus infection I left there with after sleeping in a moldy damp room. If you like the kind of place where most customers probably pay by the hour, and you don't care about the hefty aroma of weed in the vestibule, then this is the place for you. If you want a clean, comfortable nights sleep and a fresh cup of coffee, keep driving. I would rather sleep in my car than stay here again. You've been warned.

My very first visit here was for Mother's Day when my mom suggested we check out the market and rooftop patio. I am so glad we did because I was instantly hooked by the entire experience from the cleanliness to overall transformation from a former beat down motel into a luxurious space. The market contains gelato, espresso drinks, cases of drinks from boozy to normal, Nordic Harbor apparel, frozen pizzas, little snacks such as cheese and meats and an opportunity to make your own charcuterie board. Think of the market as your home base or check in if you plan on renting a room. There is also a very nice bathroom in here. My favorite part? The intimacy. Nordic Harbor isn't trying to be the loudest, most overpopulated spot on the lake, rather, everything is crafted with intention and the Nordic theme of cozy and quiet in mind. I came back for Memorial Day weekend and did a 1-night overnight with a full 8-hour pontoon rental and everything was seamless. I booked every component of this trip online and it was even given a personalized call from the owner, Nic, when I had a few lingering questions. A special code will be provided via email to access your room on the lockbox as opposed to a key. Each room amplifies the Nordic "Hygee" concept mentioned above which includes a quaint space with no clutter. The room even comes with a binder book that helps describe the room layout with the goal of keeping clutter out. I appreciated the slippers, eye masks, Nespresso machines, dish wear, patio, coffee mugs, electric fire pit and quiet hours. Additionally, the entire bathroom was a vibe from the heated floors to the LED mirror to the hanging eucalyptus to the luxurious shower head and shower spray with full products available to use. This has been my favorite shower to date!! The market, outdoor patio and pontoon rentals are open to the public so there is a good chance that people you encounter might not necessarily be spending time overnight and that is the beautiful thing about this place! Our pontoon rental was seamless - zero issues. We had great assistance learning the ropes of the boat and then it was all very independent once the keys were given which we appreciated. Needless to say, I will be returning again for sure. Thank you, Nordic Harbor!
