The foyer had water damage from leaks. It smelled bad because of all this and the Glass windows were really dirty, so badly you couldn't see out of them. The down lights in the hall looked like they had exploded years ago. There's a huge crack in the brickwork that looks like the wall was going to collapse and the dance floor was sticky. Yep, Penrith. At 8am, on a Sunday. Keeno cheerfully volunteered me to go, wished us luck and went back to sleep. He reckons his band always wins these things and he was pretty blasé about the whole deal in the car on the trip out to PENRITH. I love seeing school bands especially at this level, the music is stunningly good, the talent is inspiring and this is a very good venue. Even though it's in ...PENRITH.

No, I haven't been to one of those, don't ask. The Joan houses the Q theatre in much better surroundings than their old little box by the station from many years ago. The Q also offers acting courses, including ones for young people and workshops accessible for the disabled, making them a much-loved local cultural icon. In fact, there's a range of kid-friendly shows on at the Joan, check out their website for the program, dates and opening times. The Joan is also the home of the Penrith Conservatorium of Music apparently (although I find it hard not to hear that as an oxymoron). It's easy to get to, with lots of parking next door. Don't exactly see the connection with Joan Sutherland herself, I'm struggling to see her ever having hung out at Penrith, but what the hey...

I was so impressed with how things turned out for my son's 21st birthday that I felt I must share this information. I wanted the party to be a very special and memorable event as there were relatives coming that I had not seen for many years. The manager, Roger was so helpful in helping me choose an appropriate menu and explaining all the different menu items, despite the fact I could not pronounce the majority of them. I told him that I wanted lots of food so that people would not be going through the McDonalds drive through on the way home, also I wanted there to be "WOW" factor with all the food served. We had about 25 guests in our small three bedroom unit and there was certainly not enough room for a sit down meal. This was all taken into account and the type of food served was specifically suited to our needs. It was magical to have a chef turn up at our house before the party to set up beautifully presented platters ready as the guests started to arrive. Then throughout the entire afternoon, he created dish after dish after dish of exceptionally presented gourmet canapes that I proudly went around and served all my guests. The quality and beautiful presentation as well as the exceptional taste of the food was the topic of everyone's conversation. I will never forget how everyone just stopped what they were doing and came to see as the chef torched the banana brulee just before serving. Everyone had their iPhones poised to capture this magical moment. Words cannot describe that moment....you just had to be there! At the very end, everyone clapped and cheered the chef for making this a truly memorable and enjoyable occasion. I received so many compliments on how amazing the food was and what an extraordinary party it turned out to be. I attribute the great success of the event to Icon Event Catering and the fact that Roger took the time to listen carefully to what I wanted and certainly provided a highly trained chef with exceptional, gourmet food and loads of it.
