As it is a firm policy in our group to never go near a McCafe or anything like that, Piccolo was a good find. We stopped for coffee and bacon & egg rolls on a Sat morning on the way to Dungog. I'm not a huge coffee expert but we had a few in our team and they rated the latte 3 out of 5. I would have said 4. The b&e rolls ($8) were excellent and the staff were nice and service was fast. It's about a 5 min detour off the freeway so not much of a delay. Easy to park out front. We will be back.

Five stars for a cake shop, so you know it's going to be good…read more I stumbled across the Ettalong Cake Shop by accident while looking for a swift pre-wedding snack, and I'm glad I did. It was so good, I went back the next morning for a post-wedding mid-hangover breakfast. However, to be honest, when I entered, I thought I may have erred badly. The slightly gruff service and clipped interaction did not bode well I thought, but to my surprise, the pie and cake I purchased on my first visit were among the best I have ever had. Not the best, not going to go close, but still deserving of a five star rating. And cheap for tings so good and so big! I got a pie, cake and drink for somewhere between $10 and $12, but not sure exactly. I wish my local pie purveyor in Melbourne was so inclined..... Pro tip: get your pies and drinks, and then walk to the beach or one of the seats along the promenade so you can watch the world go by. The Central Coast of NSW is without a doubt God's country, and the view will enhance the experience. The hangover pie was tactical mastery on my part, and I believe the only thing that prevented me from dieing on the train back to Sydney. Ettalong Cake Shop: worth a special journey. If you find yourself near Woy Woy for any reason, get the hell out of Woy Woy and detour to Ettalong. You will not regret it.

They always make interesting macarons, cakes and pies as well as savoury dishes like quiche and toasted sandwiches. No week's menu is ever the same! I've been here many, many times since they opened about a year ago and am still managing to always try something new. The interior is very charming, feeling like you have popped in for tea with your really cool Nanna! The Wonderland inspired decor also adds to the whimsy of this place. If you book with enough time in advance (approx 48 hours from memory) and have at least 8 people in your group, you can even enjoy a fully catered high tea. I'm yet to experience this, but some friends have thoroughly enjoyed this. Anyone visiting the Central Coast who appreciates a good cuppa and a sweet treat should definitely step into this unique little shop.

The train station is right next to this cafe so it was super easy to catch the train with a young kid (i.e. not too much walking). The food was delicious and the milkshakes lived up to their name. On the bonus side there is a park for the kids right out the back so you can order and eat your food while you watch them play. Cool setting inside and out too. Looked like lots of seats too but we went on a Friday and I heard it's gets packed on a weekend to the point you need a reservation so maybe call ahead to avoid disappointment.
