It was fine, but I would suggest a couple of things: the bathtub had nothing on its floor and no texture so it was very slippery! Also, the furnishings are very dated and need to be replaced. The one bedroom had a king bed and a full bed in it so there was very little floor space. A sofabed would work much better. My daughter and her family stayed in the suite next door and the exterior door frame had alot of peeling paint (not great for little kids!) The pool was great and it had a hot tub which was nice to have in the cool evenings. The entrance to the place needs a light. At night you can't see it! All in all, I would give it a 3.5-4.

The two guys who seem to run this place appear to really care about their operation and customers. All of our interactions with the front desk people were great. The two guys up front were super nice and always pleasant to deal with. They even hooked it up with a free toothbrush because I forgot mine. Couldn't ask for better customer service here. The place looked like it has been renovated and really upgraded. You may not think it from looking at this place on a map, but this place has some nice amenities: several BBQs available for use, pool open late (with a great ambiance), and free continental breakfast. Also, the rooms are cozy and very well kept. They even doubled down on some stylish furniture and interior design. Bravo fellas. Finally, last but not least, the shower. The shower was a perfectly executed work of craftsmanship. It was honestly the first stone/tile shower design I had used that felt like whoever built it knew what they were doing. Will never come back and will be sure to let all my friends and family know to never book here. There is no rule saying we cannot be at the pool. Especially if we are PAYING FOR ROOMS!!!! Since the hotel is right in the college area, they even sell local college gear in the lobby. For quick food options, there's a little snack station where you can buy drinks and snacks, plus a microwave available for guests to use. I also really appreciated the water station, which made it super easy to fill up my reusable water bottle throughout the day. Location-wise, it's about a mile walk to the lake but just a block away from downtown. Parking was incredibly easy and convenient, as they have multiple lots around the property where you can park for free. The room itself was nice and standard, equipped with a fridge and a small seating area. The bathroom was very nice and updated. On my first night, the motion sensor seemed to be acting up because the lights kept shutting off on me, but housekeeping must have noticed and fixed it the next day because it worked perfectly after that. My only real complaint about the room was the WiFi, which was pretty spotty and didn't really work well inside the room. Overall, it's a clean, convenient, and modern place to stay. We were slightly concerned when we decided to stay at the Valentine Lodge. We read several reviews…read morethat were not good at all. It's hard to say with anything regarding on-line reviews though because for every negative review you will undoubtedly find a couple positive reviews. After searching online for hotels and then B&Bs in the Saugatuck/Douglas area we were nearly scared off by the high costs of other chains and B&Bs. Then we found the Valentine Lodge. We almost couldn't believe the listed cost because of the comparables. We booked the room online and then called and spoke with the owner. From the start they were very nice people and assisted with our questions. If you are looking for the Ritz, Raddison or some other other high end chic hotel, this is not it! Go ahead stay at one of those and pay quadruple the cost for a room. If you are looking for a decent room, friendly staff and a place close to town this is a great bet for you. We arrived on a Friday afternoon to stay through Sunday and couldn't help be impressed by the size of the house. Think old world charm of a southern style mansion with a beautiful front porch on the first and second floor facing the street. The grounds were immense and well kept. We met the owner and she graciously explained their rooms, policies and assisted with the area. As we made our way up the grand staircase we were a bit awestruck buy the decor and size of the home. Yes there are a lot of paintings as she is an artist. I thought they were pretty and added to the charm of the place. We found our room on the third floor and got a bit settled in. My ONE complaint of the room was the hard bed. It didn't bother me a ton but my girlfriend wasn't thrilled. The bathroom was clean, the bedroom was clean and the decor was dated but fine. Again if you're going to pick a bed and breakfast apart for older decor you should probably be staying at a high end hotel. We enjoyed the free wifi and charm of the place. We were out late and had no problems getting in and heading to bed. The next morning we headed down for the breakfast. Everything was clean and well prepared. It looked like it may have been a family affair with everyone pitching in. The egg dish was not marked with it's ingredients, (as one reviewer lamented) I didn't care, it was delicious! There was fresh fruit, hash browns, an egg scramble, juice, water and appropriate condiments. They provide trays if you wish to eat outside on the front or back porch or even on the second floor enclosed porch. We opted for the second floor. Upon return to the kitchen area they were cleaning and making sure the guests were taken care of. From the moment we checked in until we left on Sunday the owner was friendly and helpful. It's obvious that her and some of her family live in the home because they are at your beck and call for all intensive purposes. We had a great experience at the Valentine Lodge bed and breakfast and would definitely suggest it to others. Again if B&B's aren't your thing and you expect high class amenities go to a high end place. We would definitely stay here again.

On walking up to the place, it looked very cozy, warm, and inviting. The couple who own the B&B are super nice, very helpful, and just adorable. We stayed in the Valentina Room, which is on the second floor, first door on the left. It was actually bigger than I expected and had a large king size bed. We were very comfortable there. The house itself is charming, and the walls are decorated with oil paintings done by one of the family members. There are two very large decks - one in front of the house on the ground floor and the other is a large screened in porch in the front of the house on the second floor. We used both during our stay using the main floor one to eat breakfast and the second floor one to relax, drink tea, and read books/magazines before bed. This B&B is located in Douglas, which is just a short five minute drive from downtown Saugatuck. I was glad to be a little out of town, as it was always peaceful and quiet at Valentine Lodge. There was free wi fi (we never used it), wine glasses, a corkscrew, a mini fridge, and a mini coffee pot in our room, on demand tea on the porch, and board games and books to use throughout the house. Oh, and the breakfasts were just delicious. On Sunday morning, there was toast, yogurt, three kinds of quiche, blueberry cake, fruit salad, and of course coffee and orange juice. On Monday morning, we were the only guests at the B&B and we were asked what time we wanted breakfast and were told she would make it for us whenever we wanted. That breakfast was lovely too and consisted of bagels, toast, scrambled eggs, fruit salad, yogurt, coffee, and orange juice. It was ready the moment we walked down the stairs. I highly recommend this wonderful B&B. It would be a shame to miss it.

There was beeping machinery, extra vehicles & an open dumpster. Though located a couple of miles from there, the Vacasa property mngr. knew nothing of it. what? It shouldn't have been rented without disclosure! This is what to expect if same as our visit... Construction: You will hear every step one takes upstairs, day & night with creaking plywood. If your dog barks a lot, you play loud music/loud tv, or are gone all the time, it's ok. If you're a quiet meditative person, forget it. LR: "cozy up by the fireplace" reads the ad. -but the fireplace has never worked and is inoperable said the Vacasa property mngr in person. -so false advertising? The tv is small and the couch too far to see with 2 dining room type chairs staged. There were no desks or tables to eat on or use your laptop There is no ceiling light with the fan and just one small lamp. The LR therefore is always dark due to closed blinds from the parking lot right in front. (& for us roofing crews) There are glaring little spots to look like home decor, but annoying. The sliding door is very hard to slide. There are no curtains, just shears. -bright sun & no night privacy. Kitchen: The stools at the bar are flimsy and just for show. There was a severe ant infestation on the kitchen bar. -a damp rag, a crumb, they came in masses. We starting keeping 'everything' in the fridge. It was known because I ran across a couple wore out ant traps. The stove fan light was out and again glaring spots. There is no ice maker. We had 2 dish towels for 8 days. We found an old desk lamp in the closet that I cooked by. No decent pans, no large bowls, no mixer, no small appliances, few utensils and the toaster was very old with melted plastic! This kitchen was terribly equipped! Bedroom: The bed is very firm if that's how you like it. It's a pillowtop but springs still produce pressure points. It's too tall and at 5'7" I still had to jump in.... All else ok Bathroom: Once again 2 washcloths & 2 hand towels for 8 days and they even advertise this place for 4. There were 4 bath towels, 2 were used as bath mats. The water never got hot enough tho didn't run out. The sink had no stopper. The dryer knob was still broken after complaints from 2018/needs replaced. Hubster used some needle nose plyers to operate. Patio: It has a big metal table and chairs ok, but no cushions and got very hot. The air conditioning units for this and the upstairs are located right on the deck, very noisy. The water heater is located in the outdoor shed??, just interesting. On top of that, we had the privilege of having huge machinery make it their parking lot. This place looks and sounds perfect, but we won't be back...

First, the location is awesome. Across the street from a Lake Macatawa access (our balcony had a lake view) and down the street from the Holland State Park Lake Michigan Beach (perfect to watch the sun set). We also hiked Mt. Pisgah a couple of days (just down the street too). We stayed in the Newport (sleeps 8, 4 in beds, 4 in sofa beds). We loved the unit from the decor to the multi level layout and fully stocked kitchen. If someone in your party has trouble with stairs I might pick a unit that has an additional first floor kitchen/bar. There is a jet tub in the master bath and a private patio with a grill off the back of the first floor bedroom. There is also an outdoor grill with patio table seating right off the pool deck for entertaining. The salt water pool and hot tub (mostly the hot tub) was my fav, especially after climbing all those stairs at Mt Pisgah. 8 minutes to downtown Holland and 20 minutes to Saugatuck. Just down the street was a kayak and paddle board rental place. Additionally you get privileges at the Macatawa Golf Club which was very nice. It was worth every penny and we hope to go back again!

It's great for families, couples, or friend groups. It's a perfect location, with walkable access to the state park, hiking, food, ice cream, and more. Quick drive to downtown Holland. The rooms are air conditioned. The pool is well-maintained and iconic. There's a volleyball court and campfires. It's locally-owned. There really is no better place to stay. I recommend walking to the General Store for fresh donuts and nitro brew coffee in the morning. It's a hidden gem! Getting a takeout pizza and eating it on the marina is a great idea too.
