Recently rented a home on beautiful Lake Sunapee from this realtor. The house was NOT as advertised. The mildew and mothball smell was so bad that my mother slept in the car and my pregnant sister in law had to keep popping allergy medicine. Everyone woke up with stuffy heads and headaches and we left after one night.
When we walked in the door, we tried to open up windows to air it out (literally eye watering) and most of the windows didn't open or have screens. The shower downstairs didn't work and the other ones were filthy. The bar sinks had anti-freeze come out when we turned them on. This was great because my kids were filling up squirt guns in it when we realized what was going on. The "beach" we were promised was a dirt patch covered in yard debris and the dock had come off of the hinge on one side and slammed against the part that didn't move. My mother tripped over it and my 2 yr old almost got her toes caught in it. We finally blocked it off and wouldn't let anyone use it. Honestly I tried to put a good face on it until my husband and I finally went downstairs to make our bed and found the mattress cover had blood spots all over it, as did one pillow and the duvet which was supplied as our blanket. We were literally trying to decide how to sleep and not touch old dried blood. I have a photo and would be glad to post it if there is a way.
This realtor, when contacted about this, informed us there was nothing wrong with the house and that he would absolutely not be refunding our money ($5000). He didn't even apologize. At this point it's not even about the money. I feel awful for the other people who are going to have their vacations ruined like ours was. I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed the kids were to get yanked out of a vacation 1 day into it.
We have had a wonderful time at Lake Sunapee in the past and cannot say enough about the lake but this realtor should not be allowed to continue to do business, nor should the home we rented be able to rent again until they have fixed the issues at hand.
You should also know this realtor is NOT a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and when we contacted them, they informed us they were not surprised and apologized profusely for the situation. They offered up a number of other names for places to rent from for future use and you can guarantee we will be calling them. read more
