Sadly, this renovation included REMOVAL of stadium seating from the 4 newer theaters (it opened as Movies 10 in the mid-90s). Like... why? That's a downgrade, especially when many theaters around the world manage to have both stadium seating and recliners. The recliners do mitigate the bad sight lines of the lack of stadium seating, but why not both? The largest theater, #1, is now also a ScreenX. If you want to be in the largest theater here, it must be a ScreenX showing. I have not tried this format yet, but I love large format theaters (Dolby, IMAX, XD, etc.) and I would've preferred Cinemark's XD. However, they probably couldn't do an XD theater here without stadium seating. I do believe the main screen was made even larger for ScreenX, so if that format dies maybe they'll just let it be a large single screen in the future. So, there is STILL no large format theater within 20 miles of here, and it's not exactly the middle of nowhere. Other than the bizarre decisions on the renovations, it's still in good shape and has been well-maintained. In fact, it is much much nicer now than the former "Premium" option in South Bend, The Kerasotes Showplace 16. That theater is now an AMC Classic, and despite being newer, and boasting more, and larger auditoriums, is basically a dump which has literally never been updated since it opened in like 1999/2000. So, kudos on the cleanliness and overall pleasant experience, but some very strange choices on the updates. It's our go-to when I visit the area to see family.

Rochester, Indiana's Times Cinema, now more often known as The Times Theater, was originally built…read morein 1923 and opened as a movie house known as the Char-Bell. It was built on the site of a former auto dealership with some of its bricks coming from a nearby demolished college. It started as a cinema for silent films, became a two-screen cinema, and throughout its history functioned in a variety of ways for the Rochester/Fulton County community including hosting of live events, movies, performances, and in many other capacities. It closed in 2014, however,by 2016 a movement began to re-open it as a sort of community hub. While there's still much restoration to go, thus the 4-star instead of the 5-star, this is my favorite kind of movie house space and it's even more delightful that The Native Nook is right next to it. In some ways, the space reminds me a lot of Indy's Emerson Theater, though I give a slight nod to the Times Theater in terms of the way it is being used and its overall potential. The Char-Bell name came from its original owners - Charles and Belle Krieghbaum. It was originally a 780-seat theater. In 1942, it came under new ownership and the name was changed to The Times Cinema. The cinema actually closed in 1973, however, it re-opened a year later with owners and in 1979 the cinema was split into two screens. In 1985, a fire damaged the cinema and it closed briefly. However, it was repaired and re-opened. It closed on January 1, 2014 due to the inability of the owners to afford the cost of switching to digital projection. Just today, the Times Theater is hosting a fundraiser as they continue to work on renovation and restoration. Currently billing itself as a "community and entertainment center," The Times Theater uses its marquee often for special events and community announcements. These days, it also is reminding me of Franklin's Artcraft Theatre. I've always loved spaces like The Times. Of course, it's kind of a fantasy to own an older theater one day. For now, I'll simply continue to support those who actually do. Here's to new life for The Times Theater in Rochester, Indiana!

I have to drive 30 minutes from out of town to get there but the prices are always made the movie going experience more enjoyable as I felt like I didn't have to break the bank, but recently I mistakenly bought tickets for the wrong day online, and I only found out when people were sitting in what I thought were my seats. When I showed the employee my QR code, it still allowed the tickets to be printed out from the day before, so I bought concessions for the whole family and when I was confused about our seats being taken, they explained I bought tickets on the wrong day, and that there was nothing they could do for me. I reached out to their office and was never reached out to. I understand that I made an error in not paying closer attention to the date i selected, but it left a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn't even allowed to get credits for a future showing. They knew I hadn't seen the movie already, because they were able to be printed when I showed up. I've been a loyal customer and tell a lot of my friends about Wonderland, but I kind of ended up feeling hung out to dry. It was a little humiliating to be standing there holding popcorn, drinks, and candy just to tell my kids we had to go home.

Lighting and sound quality was good, temperature was a tad bit on the cold side, I'd say about 65°? May want to dress warmer. The concessions were pretty good, nothing special however. They were also out of cheese which can be a problem for some. Ever since they reopened they have been offering private watch parties. $99 for a classic movie for up to 20 people ($149 for a new release). The screening rooms are always clean and smell fresh, the staff of friendly and willing to help, and the management is awesome as well. We've done this a few times with family and friends, but doing it for a date night is just fun and memorable. The only negative thing about this theater is that the seats aren't the most comfortable.
