Lake Regional Hospital - The room they put me in and has yet to check on me. Or offered something that could actually help me sleep.

My husband dropped me off outside the door, it was too painful for me to talk and move, so I just sat on the bench outside waiting for him to come back from parking. A staff came out offering help, and helped me with a wheelchair. At the registry desk, I was told there were 6 people came before me, and the longest them have waited was 2 hours. Patients are seen by the severity and the care team inside the door decide who gets to be seen first. With no expectations to be seen anytime soon, we sat down at one corner and just waiting. According to my husband, since my consciousness was suffered by pain, in about 1 hour, we were called and went in to a single room. Our RN, Chris was above and beyond. He explained things as he was doing them, also very attentive and patient. He was busy moving things in and out and made sure I had everything I needed. While the doctor and anesthetist were talking to me, he was there like a friend helping me with questions, making me feeling a lot better. Another RN, Emma, was very skilled and efficient. She did the least painful IV I've ever had and got all my samples in no time. Before 10pm I was admitted to the ER, and before midnight I was in the hospital room. Within about 2 hours of time, they did IV, bloodwork, CT and COVID test on me. A doctor came by 2 times and confirmed my appendix needed to go. Dr. Shatto, the surgeon came by, explained everything in details, and was patient enough to answer all the questions my husband had. I was quickly admitted in the main hospital and pushed to the operation room. In the OR, all the nurses moved so fast and in sync, I was warped and settled in the blink of an eye. The anesthetist who I believe was Adam, chatted with me while setting things up and before he counted to 1, I went under. The surgery went less than a hour and luckily they found me a maternity room. It was private, spacious and clean. Before I left the hospital(around 4pm on Christmas), they've offered me breakfast and lunch; I had a great care team coming and going checking on my fluids and meds. On Monday, I came back to take a copy of my medical records. The staff on the phone was super nice and said he'd get everything together and we could just do a curbside pick up. I was super impressed by everything at this hospital. Especially all the care members working on Christmas Eve and Christmas, the holiday didn't affect their kindness and passion. Just as the signs in the parking area said, heroes work here!

Now I have a bill for $92 for an office visit and nothing was done. I'm on SS and can't afford to pay it. Will I be turned in to collections? Probably. That's how the American Medical System works. I still don't know what the procedure will cost and if Medicare will cover any of it. I contacted "Billing Questions" and was given more information than the hospital. If the hospital offered the same info I would have not gone. There's nothing I can do now. Was it a Bait and Switch? Seems like it.

Absolutely horrible care!!!!…read more May of last year I went in with a black and blue foot. She told me my ankle was sprained and that I would be fine in two weeks, NEVER ONCE saying anything about following up with another doctor. A few weeks later I had no choice but to see another doctor because I still could put zero weight on my foot. He was absolutely shocked that they missed 2 breaks and a torn ligament the way they had. I had to have two plates and screws put in my ankle it was so bad. He said there was absolutely no way an x-ray could have missed the amount of damage that was done, not even when it was a new break. Small fractures can be hard to detect when it's a new break, but this was no small fracture lol. Extensive damage had been done. My amazing insurance (whom I will also be filing a complaint against this establishment with) has already paid them hundreds of dollars for this amazingly bad care, so when we got yet another bill for 17+ dollars I didn't feel it fair that I should have to pay it. We then filed a complaint with grevence and asked them to waive this very small fee but they found in their favor saying I was told to follow up with another doctor......THIS IS A FLAT OUT LIE!!! I was never told anything close to that!!! I was specifically told it was NOT broken, that it was just a sprain and to stay off of it for two weeks. Not one word about following up with someone else. No discharge/after care papers or anything. They still want me to pay them another measly 17.50 even though they did absolutely nothing to help me, and have already received MORE then their fair share. I didn't even get a tylenol for the pain. I left that place in tiers and I'm still completely shocked at how badly they handled my entire situation. I trusted them and shouldn't have. PLEASEE!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY HERE!!! They are very obviously more worried about their money then they are your well being

If you're retired, congratulations and welcome to being an afterthought to this hospital. If you're active duty or a family member of one, I hope you get better care than I did. I know there are some good people working there, many extremely professional. They get wrapped up with the employees that manage to draw a breath and do little more and call it a workday/week/ month/year/career. Go to the pharmacy to see what I mean. First stop: ID card reader. Broken. Scans your ID bar code, then asked if you want to continue without an ID. Ah, no. Scan again, and again and again. Maybe on the third or fourth try, it will show you a blank screen and ask is this you. It's a blank screen! But if you want a ticket to wait in line, press YES. Then you glance over at the poster with instructions where it tells you there are three options to select from. Then you look at the next screen and those options are not there. SMH. Draw a ticket and wait. Wait a long time. Plan to be there a while because they are understaffed. Then you get your meds and you find no refills on some of them, others with refills; some have 30 days of supply, some 60, some 90. Makes you wonder if someone brought their kids in to help out. Unreal and scary at the same time.

This hospital used to be the best place to go for medical care but has fallen hard and fast over…read morethe last 5 years. My mother has had 2 separate times of her going to the emergency department, usually late at night, and been sent to sit in the waiting room for HOURS. Once, we thought that she had a massive leaking infection in a recent surgical site (thank God that was not the case!) and she waited for 4 hours before we realized our mistake and she decided to just come home. Tonight, she needed help with an extremely painful leaking cyst on the back of her thigh. She wad made to sit on that extremely painful cyst (being flat out denied a place to at least lay down as she cried in the waiting room) for FIVE HOURS. Meanwhile, every cough and sneeze that walked in was given a bed before her. I don't know what happened to patient care at this "hospital" but clearly it has died in a corner somewhere....I recommend checking the waiting area.

That is a dangerous situation considering they are dealing with people with medical problems. I tried talking to her and had answers for her concerns but she just kept talking over me and would not listed. So I would recommend Phelps Hospital but definitely not Phelps Home Healthcare unless they get a new manager with management skills.
