The single track trails are well marked and very well kept. They are pretty smooth, and we didn't see any signs of erosion. We liked the variety of trails* -- a couple green circles, at least 10 blues, a couple black diamonds (we went on one and did not find it very technical) and even a double black diamond. You'll do plenty of climbing, but what goes up must come down, and there's a lot of it -- winding through trees, with switchbacks and some fun jumps. Make sure you carry a map, but if you don't, there is very little chance you'll get lost. (*I think it's a great place to practice riding with your new clipless pedals. I felt comfortable on the easier trails, and if you do fall, it's usually a pretty soft landing. I stayed un-clipped for the black diamonds just to be safe.) The $10/night campsites are extremely clean, and super roomy -- a great place for group camping. There are fire rings and convenient picnic benches at each site. There was only one pit toilet that we could find, but it never posed a problem for us. Campers respect the 11pm - 7am quiet hours. The only semi-bummer is the lack of potable water, so remember to bring plenty. There is a little market store 5 minutes away if you forget, or need more. Dogs are allowed, and are supposed to be on leash, although no one seems to mind if they are well-behaved off-leash. On a trail, however, I recommend you leash your dog as there are plenty of mountain bikers and horseback riders that will cross your path. ATV's and dirt bikes are not allowed, which keeps the park really quiet. All in all, we love this place!

There are a couple sites that don't have much shade. Our weekend here was quiet and relaxing. The other guests mostly stayed in their campers/rvs. The 100 degrees temperatures probably had something to do with it. The campground met all our needs. We setup camp here and then explore the surrounding Clearlake community outside the grounds. We went to lake, the local community park where there was a Shakespeare play happening. We enjoyed a farmers market about 20 mins away.

We paid for a campsite expecting a reasonable night's sleep and instead spent most of the night awake listening to our neighbors. When I texted the host, I wasn't even asking for a refund--I simply requested a complimentary night for a future stay as a goodwill gesture. The request was immediately denied because of their "no refunds for early departure" policy. The issue isn't that we left early. The issue is that the campground did not provide the quiet, enjoyable experience that guests are paying for. Hiding behind a policy while ignoring the reason a guest is leaving is poor customer service and shows a complete lack of concern for the guest experience. If you're looking for a peaceful campground, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Growing up, this place was known simply as the Ukiah Municipal Park. I'm not sure when the whole Todd Grove thing happened, but it's the in thing to name parks after people. I'm all good with that. Some of the park kid toys are gone, but the giant tractor tires remain. What is it about a giant rubber tire that would get me to spend countless hours entertaining me? The parks iconic symbol to me was always the rocket. Now that was the single biggest childhood attraction for me growing up in the entire town. I still remember the day I felt like one of the big kids when I finally stopped my crying and summited the very top. I swear you could see the Golden Gate Bridge from there. Sir Edmund Hillary has nothing on me. . This park includes two swimming pools, plenty of picnics and countless trees that provide protection and shade from the hot summer sun. I took swimming lessons here as a kid and is where I conquered my fear of the water. I cannot even begin to count the fond memories of this place. From the family summer outings, to the yearly school picnics this place will always hold a special place in my heart.

The signage should indicate the accurate mileage since this is a flat, paved trail perfect for visitors in wheelchair, or using walkers/canes. All trails indicates 2.4 miles round trip. Nice to have portapotties, barbecues and benches but they are all pretty close to the entrance. Most of the walk has a lot of noise from Highway 101. No water in the River right now. Don't know if I will return.

The best way to get here is by kayak or boat probably. We came up from the north side and parked the kayaks on the rocks. There's a bit of a steep hill that leads up to the central area with the aforementioned stuff, and the hill is littered in sheep skulls/bones. I've never seen anything like it but it really looks like there was a sheep massacre here. Anyways, the island isn't really creepy otherwise. The views from the top are pretty good - you can see the lake peeking through the trees, and the swing gives you a nice vantage point to relax before making your way back to wherever you came from. There doesn't seem to be any private property but with the sheep skulls and all I couldn't be sure.

I've never actually stepped foot on Rattlesnake Island, but have water skied around it since the…read moremid '60's! I understand that it was called Rattlesnake Island because many years ago, the island was inundated with rattlesnakes. Then, to control the rattlesnake population, wild pigs were bred on the island. The theory was that wild pigs would kill the rattlesnakes! I don't know if that's true or not. There's a building site on the island. A year and a half ago, I talked to a young man who said that he was the building site foreman. He said that he brought work crews over to the island occasionally, when the owner had tasks for him to complete. I don't know the status of the home that they were building. I believe that the island is owned by the man who's building his house there!
