The water was still freezing so we only put our feet in. I loved the fountain and the carousel. There are lots of benches and observation points. Plus, parking was quick and easy. There was also surprisingly clean public restrooms as well.

Walking the pier allows you to see a great view of the shoreline, but be careful on windy and wavy days as the water comes up over the pier . In the peak summer months, I would recommend parking up on top of the bluff and walking down the steps right by Silver Beach Pizza, so you can save yourself from the cluster of cars trying to get down to beach parking. Also, St. Joe city is changing parking and routing near Silver Beach so be aware of traffic shifts. All in all, a great beach for families, but 4/5 stars because some other beaches are less touristy, which locals like myself much prefer.

I was able to ride my bike around, walk on the beach and get lite snacks in the concession stand. There are even free fixed grills where you can grill here, which I have to try that next time I am here. We ended up spending at least 6 hours here and was so relaxing. I would greatly recommend this park to anyone.

Once inside, there is a museum with pictures and historical facts. A couple of souvenirs to purchase on the first floor. The volunteers - one to every floor had plenty of information about the lighthouse and St. Joseph. We were able to climb to top and walk on the outside. It was amazing - I loved it!

I love coming out here when there's not many people and just think while looking out at the water. Yes, you do have to pay for parking, but you do at most, if not all, beaches in the area. I do prefer this beaxh over Silver Beach mostly because there is less people, not far from Silver Beach, easy to get to and easy to find a parking spot. They have park equipment, picnic tables, and a roof covered area.

People come here to just sit and watch the waves, look for beach glass, do zen meditation/gardening with the pebbles, clean up litter, swim, paddleboard, and chill with their dogs. (The last is technically not allowed but I won't tell if you won't.) The only drawback is there isn't much parking. Pro tip: your navigation app may direct you to a parking lot north of the parking lot with a ramp entrance to the beach, but that is great for overflow parking. Rocky Gap County Park will get you to the closest parking lot to the beach.

PROS: 1. Good place to watch sunsets…read more 2. Shallow water stretches out nearly 50' in some areas and enables young children and non swimmers to enjoy the water. 3. Shallow water warms up earlier in the season so water temperatures aren't icy cold compared to beaches that have deeper water. 4. No admission or parking fees. CONS: 1. The beach is not well maintained by Berrien County Parks. 2. There are no lifeguards on duty, nor any kind of beach supervision. Posted rules aren't enforced. 3. The beach is often dirty and full of twigs, logs, abandoned camp fires, dead fish & birds, and litter from beach goers (cigarette butts, food wrappers, cans, paper, and fireworks remains). 4. There are many stones in the water that make it uncomfortable to enter the water unless you have water shoes on. 5. The beach is very small and narrow. When water levels of Lake Michigan are high the beach is even narrower, barely allowing more than one row of patrons to set up their Towels, Umbrellas, Sun/Wind tents, and Chairs. 6. The only toilet facilities are outdoor latrine type toilets (no flush toilets). 7. There is limited parking at the beach entrance but there are 8 more spaces a block away (up a steep hill climb) if the area isn't already reserved for a wedding. 8. Be ready to get a parking ticket and/or your car towed if you park along the road where "No Parking" signs are posted. 9. Jet skiers and other power water sport equipment run very close to shore endangering swimmers, people on flotation devices, or people in the water playing games. 10. There is no supervision to keep power toys safely out of the swimming areas. 11. On weekends and holidays, many power boats anchor close to shore in shallow water near the be. 12. There is no food or beverage service by the beach nor within walking distance. 13. There is no cell phone service.
