I highly recommend Laguna Beach Dojo for both kids and adults. We attend as a family. Master Kash is an exceptional teacher. He is kind, talented and patient. He meets his students right where they are at, and he's really good at explaining the why and how behind different moves so that they make sense and are easier to learn. All of the other teachers are equally great and a pleasure to work with. They are just phenomenal with kids of different ages. The skills we learn will be useful for the rest of our lives. My kid has says about the Dojo: "I think karate is fun! I really like it and I really like the teachers at the Laguna Beach Dojo. They are so friendly and helpful! It's good to know self defense."

My son looks forward to going to Dojo every week! Master Kash and Mr. Vanderbeek are great with the kids. They encourage self discipline in class and at home!

I'm 47 years old and have been training at the USSD Laguna Beach dojo intermittently for 7 years. No other fitness regimen has done more for my mind, body--and, yes, as corny as it sounds--soul than my Kung Fu practice at USSD. I am turning 48 on May 5th and I'm in better shape now than I were in my twenties. The USSD instructors measure up to this singular expectation: they *live* what they preach. Where else are we reminded daily to be excellent, no matter what? How many places (in the US) can people from all ages and all walks of life interact together with mutual respect and genuine camaraderie? There are few things in life that when undertaken can be guaranteed to change the course of our life for the better: Martial Arts practice at the USSD Laguna Beach dojo is one one them.

Very happy for been part of grandiose team

The instructors are top notch in their specialties and also in working with and motivating kids. Mr. Cho genuinely cares about the progress of his students - physically and mentally. A surprise perk has been adult classes, whether in self defense, Jiu jitsu or other styles of martial arts.

Tears of growing into bravery and confidence( learning that he doesn't have to fear things he thought he had to fear, and so much more! It has been a beautiful process and there still is so much more growth to come! We are grateful for Professor Grant and his team of outstanding coaches and all around phenomenal people. They all have poured into our son with advice; encouragement; tough love when needed; skill building; life skills; how to treat others; and the list goes on and on. 20 out of 10 is how I would rate our experience! His studio is beautiful and very clean. In fact, the mats were just mopped down as I was the first lesson of the day. First, I signed a waiver. Next, I got fitted for a gi and then, we were off to the mats. He gave a brief history of jiu-jitsu, Then, taught me many basic fundamentals. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is such a physical contact sport and I felt very comfortable and safe with Professor Grant. He was easy on me, yet I still broke a sweat. I really appreciated his passion & time and also appreciated his invite to stick around for the 11a class. Oooooooh, if only I didn't have another appointment bc this can be habit forming! I cannot wait to go back. Highly recommended!

The positive changes I've seen in my kids go far beyond the mats. Through their training, they've developed real-life skills like discipline, respect, independence, responsibility, and accountability--and what truly stands out is that they don't just practice these values in class, they apply them every day at home, at school, and in public. Our boys genuinely look forward to every class, which speaks volumes about the environment and instruction at the academy. While they are absolutely developing strong physical skills and confidence, what impresses me most is the foundation of character being built. This academy is helping shape young people who are respectful, self-aware, and prepared for success both on and off the mat. One of my favorite moments as a parent is seeing the reactions of others when my 3- and 5-year-old naturally respond to adults by saying "sir" or "ma'am"--without any prompting. That level of respect is clearly being modeled and reinforced consistently. Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy OC is more than a martial arts school--it's a place where kids grow into confident, respectful, and accountable individuals. I'm grateful for the impact it has had on my boys and highly recommend it to any parent looking for something truly meaningful for their children.
