I took the Acting 101 class in April of 2023, and since then have taken dozens more classes and workshops. Josh works well with all levels of students: he makes beginners feel totally at ease and more experienced actors feel like they can hone their skills and expand their areas of comfort. He tackles all areas of the industry--from the business end to the technical aspects of filming, and infuses his humor into classes to make them fun! But wait....there's more! He also offers many, many opportunities to work on your craft outside of the classroom, as he writes and films short films, webisodes, feature films, as well as writing and producing dramatic and comedic plays for the stage--all cast with his students! Additionally, the camaraderie among the students makes for an atmosphere that is both welcoming and nurturing. The insights I have gained have been invaluable....and I always look forward to the classes so much that I am often signed up for 2-3 classes a week! I have also brought many friends to the classes as well! Highly recommend! read more

I took the Acting 101 class to do something fun, creative, and social during the week. A reason to step away from work and home life for a few hours to try something uncomfortable with a bunch of strangers. After just one class, it became the highlight of my week. And mid-way through the course, I couldn't sign up for the next class faster. Josh wasted no time in throwing us out of our comfort zones, which quickly created a camaraderie and bond within the class. Josh made each week a lot of fun, and there was always a performance. Leave your notebooks at home - this class is all about gaining experience and getting comfortable performing. 10/10 would recommend!! read more

WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE to be taught by the most AWESOME teacher Joshua Nelson! WOW! After taking his classes, I'm completely OBSESSED and ADDICTED to acting and hosting! I started in the Acting 101 Class, on Monday nights for 8 weeks. Joshua's classes definitely helped me make up my mind that 1000% this is the business I want to be in. Joshua is such a talented actor and teacher. He truly cares about his students and was honest with us about the business. Each class he worked so hard to bring out the best in all of us. What truly blew me away is how he was able to figure out so quickly roles, that suit each of us best, by giving us "monologues" and "sides" that felt so natural. If you want to become an actor or explore the possibility, look no further because La Guardia Acting Studio is the best choice around! I can't wait to go back for my next class and my upcoming workshops in the New Year! OBSESSED! read more

Just completed the 101 class and it was an amazing experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who has ever wanted to try acting or simply feel more comfortable speaking in front of people. Every class is a different experience and is lots of fun. Josh is a fantastic teacher who really knows how to stretch you. If you are on the fence, just try to it! It's only 8 weeks and trust me, these classes will quickly become one of the highlights of your week! read more

I took the Acting 101 class to see if I was interested in pursuing acting (I definitely am now). It was AMAZING. Josh is very good with all of us, he is very knowledgeable, and was able to answer all our questions. The scenes we did were very fun and entertaining whether you watched them or performed them. I've already signed up for the next two acting classes and I'm very excited to see what's to come. read more

Just finished 101! Definitely worth it, had such a great time and would recommend the class to anybody who has ever considered acting, needs help public speaking or is just looking for something to do that would spice the week up. Josh was super helpful and always gave constructive criticism. I never felt like the huge loser that I am! Definitely sign up for this class. read more

I have been a student of Josh's for 2 years now, and I continue to learn and grow as an actor. I cannot say enough good things about Josh's style of teaching. He allows each student to grow at their own pace and gives constant support and guidance. His classes are unlike any other acting classes around! Not only does he write scenes just for you, but he also creates actual films, plays, and web series for his students to work in - real-life experience that you just don't get anywhere else! During the pandemic, Josh moved his classes online, and we continue to learn about acting on Zoom - something we will definitely need to know how to do for the future. He brings his own experiences of being an actor into class, shares the mistakes he made, and how we can overcome them. I plan to continue to take classes at LaGuardia as I pursue my career because I feel like I just can't get the same type of teaching anywhere else! read more

How does the saying go? A diamond in the ruff? I came into the first class as raw as eddie murphy. Thinking "hey i can do what i see on tv too", well my teacher Josh recorded our first "tryout" for a commercial and boy did i look as fake as a Kardashian. He instilled into our group decades of tips and tricks he learned from the industry in just 2 months of classes. The Do's and Dont's, things some of the pros cant even conquer. 1 star for value, at $175 no one legit offers that kind of value 1 star for all the tips he teaches: be on time! dont use a janky headshot, relate the scene to real life experiences... etc 1 star for going over EVERY aspect of the job, from commercials to tv & movie, what to do about headshots and agents, how to properly read a script, this alone was worth the price of the class 1 star for being truthful and honest. When your good he throws you praise, and when you dont give 100% he calls you out on it 1 star for having the talent to know what roles everyone in class will fit in and should pursue, he tailors the roles you practice to your strengths and leaves you knowing what jobs you should audition for and what ones will be a waste of time and resources grand total = 5 stars read more

By sheer luck, I found this awesome school. You wouldn't think much of it looking from the outside, but inside is this world of tools and knowledge that produces great experiences and actors. I've taken Adult Acting 101, 202, and plan to keep training here. Joshua is a REAL teacher and knows what he's talking about. He'll work with you at any level to make you into the best. It's proof that you don't have to be in the city to get a good class. And on top of that, you CANNOT beat the prices!! read more

I'm so excited to start my second class with Josh at LaGuardia Acting Studio. I had the greatest experience in Acting 101. While I've been/studied acting for quite some time, I've never learned so much about protocol when it comes to auditions, agents, commercial vs. legit, etc. My fears going into the class were that it would be more of "the same": awkward warm-ups, silly games and pretentious lessons about the craft. I've been there and done that. But I was so pleasantly surprised at how relaxed, practical, and knowledgeable Josh is about the business as well as the art. I've spent the last 8 weeks THRILLED to go to class and I'll spend the next several weeks anxious to start the next one. read more

I can't say enough good things about LaGuardia Acting Studio. The instructor, Josh, is very knowledgeable about all facets of the craft and business of acting and offers just the right mix of encouragement and constructive criticism. And his support extends outside the classroom too, whether it's offering you opportunities to meet agents or casting professionals, or to help you with head shots or your resume. But aside from all that, the class is just great fun! read more

I have taken classes with josh three times now. Every time I have learned something new. A great teacher that makes you feel comfortable with acting. He is very honest and offers constructive criticism. Even if I don't become an actor, I will never regret taking his classes. read more

Amazing! Just amazing. Super friendly, and very open and honest teaching of the acting business and instant feedback on your performance in each class. I have known Josh for years and even though I don't take very many classes there anymore, I'd definitely recommend them to any new or existing NYC actors, or anyone living in North New Jersey who wants to learn to act. Do it. Do it. read more

Just finished Acting 101 in June and just tonight finished the first class of the next series of 8 'advanced' sessions. For someone who joined 'just because I wanted to take a stab at acting', well .... I am now addicted! If Actors Anonymous was a support group -- I would be a proud member -- thanks to Josh and LaGuardia Acting Studio! LAS is a perfect place to either take the first step (as I did) or if your an established actor and think you know EVERYTHING about acting (trust me ... You don't and Josh will remind you of that every week) this is the place for you. Can't say enough about Josh -- he's encouraging yet honest. If you're not prepared to work in this class, look somewhere else. However if you truly are interested in this crazy business, look no further. Josh is your guy. Roslyn Anderson read more

I just started my third class here at the studio and I couldn't be more excited!! Each class is so different and fun! Unlike other acting classes I've taken, that only focus on the acting, Josh teaches you about the industry itself and how it works - and he also shares personal experiences which are really interesting and informative to hear! The environment there is also very welcoming, I've never felt uncomfortable -in a bad way- acting there (Josh definitely challenges you sometimes and gives scenes that are "uncomfortable" - but in a good way, like scenes that I haven't done before and that challenge me). Plus there are so many different classes you can take! Going to class is honestly the best part of my week, and I'm so excited to sign up for more classes!! read more

My daughter goes to Laugardia and absolutely loves it! I just picked a studio close to home, not really knowing anything about the school and we sure got lucky. I've been surprised to stumble upon someone in the acting biz who is honest and tells it how it is! One of the films she made with the studio was accepted in the Manhattan Film Festival! See, you don't have to travel to NYC for a quality school. Also, I feel the price of each class is very reasonable. read more

Josh worked with me for months on my college audition monologues and helped me throughout the whole process. Because of him, the private coaching and multiple classes at his studio over the past few years, I'm going to a BFA Acting program at my first choice college, early decision...a program with an acceptance rate of 10% on an EASY year. I'd recommend Josh to anyone and everyone! read more

Going into intro acting101, I was extremely nervous and excited because acting was something I always wanted to do. From just the first class with Joshua, I was extremely comfortable, relaxed and just excited to learn more. He is an amazing teacher and knows how to make everyone feel completely themselves and free. I've learned so much and will continue to learn by taking acting202 classes and what ever other classes LaGuardia Acting Studio will offer, I would never even think about being taught by anyone or anywhere else.Thank you for helping me find out what my true passion is and helping me craft it, every class I leave, I go home excited to tell my family and friends how much I learned and how much fun i had. And that is extremely rare for me to be that excited about anything. Thank you again Joshua and LaGuardia Acting school read more

What an awesome experience. Just finished the 101 class and have already signed up for 202. Josh is an excellent teacher that sees the potential in everyone. I found the class through an online search engine while looking for something in NJ and it was definitely worth it. You don't need experience. I feared signing up for an acting class for years and when I finally decided "ok I can do this", it was Josh's both thorough and quick responses to my initial inquiries that reassured me that I was doing the right thing and that his class in particular was right for me. Well I most certainly wasn't wrong. Looking forward to the next class!!! read more

I was interested in starting acting and the acting 101 class was great for me. Joshua is a great teacher and is helpful and enthusiastic towards his students. He really creates an open environment where students can feel comfortable to act around one another. Overall, he is very friendly and he brings out the best in new actors. Beyond just helping new actors refine their craft, he helps them get on their feet professionally by going over how to audition, explaining terminology, and by guiding actors by tailoring their resumes for a career in acting. After saying all this, I will be joining his acting 202 class and certainly beyond to hone my acting skills further. Anyone who chooses to take acting classes here would not be disappointed and would certainly feel encouraged to continue acting as, at least, a hobby, if not empowered to pursue acting as a career. read more

Josh is raw, honest, positive, extremely helpful and genuinely wants to see every student succeed. It started off as just an interesting thing to try... I searched for local schools that weren't going to break the bank since I wasn't sure if I'd like it. Found LAS and read up on Josh to see what he was about. Reviews were good, and they built my confidence to move forward with signing up. Got to class and met a bunch of people who were of all ethnicities, ages, sizes, etc... and they were all there to see what I came to see... "just wanted to try it out". 1st class showed me immediately that I had a lot to work on, 2nd class started to get the jitters out, by the 3rd class I knew I wanted to go deeper into this industry, and from there till the end of the 8th week I was determined to improve each week. Josh made the classes fun and interesting, my classmates were supportive, and we all grew together in learning what our strengths and weaknesses were. Josh also tailored scripts for us to challenge us, and test our ability to expand our acting limits (what little we had at that moment). I give the 101 class 5 stars. It exceeded my expectations and highly recommend it. 95% of my class has enrolled in LAS's 202 class. That says it all. read more
