There's regular classes for getting certified in your belaying skills, and the instructors are legit passionate about their work. Try to go at a less busy time, but honestly the hours are restricted so you'd be hard-pressed to find a truly empty gym. The best time to go is right when they open and you can try to get to the routes you want. Ideal to have your own shoes- apart from the grossness of using rented shoes, you don't have to splurge to get a great pair off of amazon.

What a wonderful facility!…read more This building is very new (only ~1.5 years old) and absolutely beautiful! You walk into a large naturally lit lobby, with local event flyers and news on display, as well as Millbrae branded merch (hats, shirts, etc) for sale. There is a reception desk with staff there to help and answer any questions. I came specifically to pick up a custom SF Giants Kleenex box that I ordered at the recent Millbrae Art & Wine Festival. We were greeted by Laurie, who was very friendly and told us all about what they had to offer at the Rec. Center. Just behind some glass doors near the lobby, is a game room. This is mostly targeted towards kids, with a giant TV and various video game systems to play with. We saw around a dozen kids hanging and playing in this area as we walked by. As you continue down on the first floor, there are classrooms, conference rooms, and even a giant hall that can be rented in full (or half) for private events! They also have a kitchen connected, which is helpful for events serving food. There are several clean and accessible bathrooms, as well as lots of fun historic photos on display. They have a Fitness Center with various equipment, and space for aerobic classes. There's also a room dedicated entirely to Ping Pong! If you get hungry or thirsty, there are two vending machines with drinks and snacks, and several water fountain/refill stations throughout. There is also an entire upstairs area. In addition to private rooms, there is a "Senior Lounge" which has comfortable seating, a large TV, and a half-kitchen. There is an outdoor patio connected up top with over a dozen lounge type chairs to enjoy some fresh air. They also have space for outdoor activities for people of all ages. There are multiple playgrounds for kids, in addition to multiple tennis courts and a large field. The Rec. Department also oversees many other fields (school and other) and a skate park, according to their website! If you live in (or near) Millbrae, you gotta check out this Rec. Center! There is a ton to do, it's super bright and clean, and the staff is all very friendly and welcoming! I'm looking forward to coming back again and utilizing some of these amazing features!

I saw a number of residents sitting at the various desks and couches in the lobby areas on both sides of the building, most were on their devices or laptops working or relaxing. So there's free Wi-Fi and people can just hang out there. It's a pretty new and nice looking building with clean bathrooms.

Generation Buddies is a relatively new monthly activity which I also recommend. I've also attended table tennis and a few bus trips. All the staff are wonderful - personable, friendly, receptive, and caring. Caitlyn, Matt, George, Daniel, Janet, Chef Brenda, Cheryl, and a few others I don't know. The receptionist volunteers Carol and Anne are great too! Parking is free either on the street or in the underground garage underneath the library, accessible from either Chestnut St. or Cherry St. Check it out!

There aren't any showers or lockers, which the new gym does have along with one of the campus pools. Sorry but only 3 stars because the place isn't as varied as the new gym. Wish they had more ventilation on the basement floor where most of the machines are- in the hot afternoons and evenings in the summer the stench is unbearable!

They've ranged from classics to experimental and from dramas to musicals. While the shows obviously vary in quality, I've always enjoyed them and been impressed by the acting. Compared to other community theater I've been to, this is a notch above. The building itself has an intimate and historical feel. It was built in 1934 in a Mediterranean style. The seating is a bit worn and may be cramped if you're a larger person but the acoustics are great and the sight lines are good from everywhere. There's not a bad seat in the house. There are snacks and drinks for intermission and, as has become increasingly common, you can pre-order. The bathrooms are in the building next door but it's a very short walk. All in all, a charming little theater with good plays.

Burgess Park is a lovely and lively neighborhood park tucked in the neighborhood…read more It does get busy at times, but that's part of the charm. There's so much going on, a soccer field, a skate park, a duck pond, tennis course, swimming pool, and plenty of small paths for walking. There's also a library on-site that I haven't checked out yet. With all the space and variety, it's a great place to spend time outdoors. Also a bonus is when the ducks have small babies running around, they are the cutest to watch as the little ducklings bring a smile to my face. There's plenty of parking, and with a police station nearby, it feels like a fairly safe park even in the evenings. My husband and I used to walk here all the time, and it's a great place to enjoy the outdoors.
