If you are considering hiring Mountaineer Land Surveying, I strongly recommend reading this before…read moremaking any decision. My wife and I hired them for what should have been a simple task: locating a single washed‑out boundary corner after Hurricane Helene. Instead, we were met with misrepresentation, inflated charges, and practices that raise serious ethical concerns. 1. Unlicensed Individual Represented as a Surveyor We were told our job would be handled by someone who introduced himself as a surveyor. Only later did we discover he was *not licensed*, yet the company allowed him to speak and act as one. Ensure when this company does a survey that they are under direct supervision by a licensed individual. 2. Contract Sent Under Misleading Circumstances The contract we signed was emailed by the office at the direction of an unlicensed individual, and we believed it was for the job *he* quoted. We had no direct communication with the licensed surveyor before crews arrived. 3. Severely Inflated Travel Billing The company billed 10.5 hours of travel time even though the actual round‑trip drive from their office to our home takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. They overcharged by 6.75 hours, totaling $1,012.50 in excess billing. 4. Unexplained Office / Mapping Hours The invoice included 16 additional office hours, with no itemization or documentation of what was actually done. 5.Lack of Transparency To this day, the company has not provided field data, GPS/RTK logs, CAD files, mapping records, or time documentation, despite multiple requests made in writing and in person. If you are seeking honesty, transparency, or ethical surveying practices, this was not our experience with Mountaineer Land Surveying. I encourage anyone considering their services to do thorough research and insist on full documentation before authorizing any work. Get a quote in writing from this company or they may take advantage of you.
