I am already a person who is comfortable with blood draws and other medical testing procedures, but…read moreevery time I have visited this lab, I have always had a pleasant and insightful experience. The location is great with plenty of parking space. The waiting room is spacious, adequate for appropriate social distancing. The iPad check-in process is contact-less and because they permit walk-ins, wait times are minimal (less than 5 minutes the last three times I visited between Jan - March 2021). I have had blood work done, collected fecal samples, performed breath tests, etc. Every time, the staff have been extremely friendly, reassuring, and knowledgeable. During my breath test, I had to wait for 15 minutes between samples collected, and I had the most wonderful conversation with the woman performing my test. She was so friendly and likable, I almost forgot that I had one more breath sample to collect. All the staff have always clearly answered any of my questions with kindness and more recently they even helped me install the Quest Diagnostics app on my phone to get my results as soon as they return. As a healthcare worker and as a patient who has visited this location, I am always confident sending patients to Quest Diagnostics in New Brighton to complete any labs.

Summary: NOPE! The phlebotomists at Quest New Brighton are sub-competent at venipuncture & have *no…read moreclue* how to interact with anxious or special needs patients. They also couldn't manage to draw one small tube without stabbing me multiple times & giving me a painful, walnut-sized hematoma. Do not come here. Long form: So, fresh off my seamless & *non-traumatic* visit to a different Quest location (in FL; see my other reviews), I walked into this New Brighton, MN Quest for a one-week follow-up test. The two experiences, however, could not have been more different. If you have no medical phobias & no anxiety issues, and are plumbed only with Beginner Level 0 veins, perhaps all you care about is wait times--in which case, whatever, keep your arms warm in their freezing waiting room and try your luck. Otoh, if what you care about is getting skilled, professional phlebotomists who are experienced in their line of work & who have at least vaguely passable chairside manner, read on. The first bad sign at Quest New Brighton was the young phlebotomist looking at me like I have two heads as I explained that, because I have a difficult time with phlebotomy, I had prepared one arm with Emla cream & would be disappearing into my headphones for the duration of the procedure. Seriously: this woman is a phlebotomist, but she had no idea what Emla cream is & seemed *deeply unnerved* by a patient with venipuncture anxiety (as if such patients were so rare a thing!). Next, I explained that I need a pediatric butterfly needle--& she tried to tell me that "Quest policy" dictates straight needles in patients with normal veins. Since Quest in FL didn't bat an eye about the butterfly needle last week, this "policy" was news to me...& since I was already feeling that this phlebotomist & I were at odds, it was not news that I was ready to hear. When I started panicking, she got the butterfly needle after all & said (dismissively) that it wasn't THAT big a deal--but WTF? If the supposed "policy" isn't set in stone, why even fuck with me about the butterfly needle to begin with? I just told you that phlebotomy is hard for me, so why make this harder than it needs to be? Just get the little needle and let me get out of here. Next was the actual draw, which was a bloody clusterf*ck (no pun intended). You know that sinking feeling you get when a phlebotomist keeps poking, & prodding, & palpating, and this goes on FOREVER (past the end of the headphones song you've cued up), & you still haven't even felt the needle? It is an awful, stomach-churning feeling. At Quest in FL, last week's phlebotomist got two tubes off that same arm in just half a song (start to finish). My regular phlebotomist is a rockstar & can do more than two vials in a mere fraction of a song. But the young phlebotomist at Quest New Brighton just kept mushing my arm around...until she finally took a stab, rolled my "normal" vein, & gouged me pulling the needle back out. Great. Eventually, Young Phlebotomist brings in a second phlebotomist. The two stand over me while I'm trapped in that chair; Young Phlebotomist complains & then the two discuss me in third person, like I'm not even there. I am _this close_ to screaming, running for the hills, and trying my luck at some other MSP Quest tomorrow, but I end up letting Second Phlebotomist have a shot. Second Phlebotomist doesn't have great technique either, but she does finally fill that one stupid vial--at which point the two smack some tape on me and leave the room. I eventually found my way out. The whole experience sucked. Tl;dr: Go somewhere else.

I was not happy at all with my current NP at MN Health Fairview, Maplewood so thought I'd give…read moreHerself a try (Roseville location). I was very pleased. I was hesitant I'll admit, thinking I needed to stay in the normal environment of clinic/hospital atmosphere. Herself has a different vibe and because it's new, I was a little fearful I was making a mistake going against the "normal" expectations of where to go. I hope that makes sense. My PA is Julie, she was awesome. My first visit was the consultation, this took aprox 90 minuets and the visit with Julie went well. She took her time, listened to me, and gave me undivided attention. I went back for labs, which I was in and out within 30 min, then back the following week for my annual/wellness visit. Again, Julie took her time with me, gave me more of an exam then I've ever had at my previous "wellness exams". She did not make me feel rushed, answered all my questions. I will be sticking with Herself and Julie as my primary clinic and PA.

I was frustrated with my current clinic and all the different people you would have to see instead…read moreof one primary care team. I dreaded any thought of having to "go to the Dr" everything from scheduling appt (two weekw out) to repeating your issues several times during a scheduling call etc. Looking for something different I came across some ad (prob FB) and was a little skeptical especially after some of these reading reviews. I am happy to say after I completed my first visit (consultation) was extremely pleased with Office exp, Quality and Type of care (1 hr plus visit) and attention that I rec'd from my new PA Julie. Everyone from the front receptionist, care coordinator & others that I met were great! I will not hesitate to post any negative exp or reviews but am looking forward to hopefully referring HERSELF Health as my new health care and wellness clinic!!
