Fun space, greeted with tea of my choice, and just had a fantastic experience. Agata talked to me about what I wanted, then tweaked my usual cut so that it's more stylish, attractive and easy to care for. She was easy and professional, as well as friendly. I have straight hairs mixed with frizzy afro hairs which makes getting my hair cut a bitch too. Usually I love my hair for up to a full nine hours after getting it cut and styled properly and end up hating it for about two months with it taking another four months before I even remotely dare to take the plunge again. This time was different. This time (for the first time in my life!!!) my hair was treated as curly hair. Most hairdressers cut my hair like it's straight hair and ignore the frizzles. So, this time my hair was super curly when I left. Not a look I like on myself, but I figured I'd give it a chance and see how it would settle. Again, usually I hate my hair after it settles... Well, the day after I could immediately see that for once a hairdresser had actually done what I'd asked! *gasp* For the first time ever I was actually happy post haircut. For the first time a hairdresser had managed to just trim the dead ends, add some layers and NOT take off half my hair! Amazing! I actually still had long hair when leaving the hairdressers. Which for me has never happened before. Anyway, long story short. In the search for just one hairdresser who really "gets me", I'm not sure this is the one, but while I search high and low, de Kappers will definitely be my go-to whenever I spontaneously decide to get a haircut and I'm in the city anyway. ;) A solid 3.5 stars.

I saw only positive reviews of Salon B, so I went there. Now I regret it wholeheartedly. I have suffered some of the worst haircuts of my adult life in this salon. Most recently I went in for a mere trim and somehow had my sideburns whacked off and several months of growth from the top of my head and bangs removed when I told the stylist not to touch anything but the bottom of the back of my hair for a clean up of it. When I initially called Salon B for my first appointment I asked to have someone who is good with women's short hair work on me and was told that everyone in the salon is trained to work on all types of hair. Let me state unequivocally that I have not found anyone in the salon who specializes in short women's hairdos. A few employ the motto of "do no harm", but I have now sworn to never enter this salon, even if only for a trim.

While the stylist didn't speak English and I didn't speak Dutch, I must have misunderstood what I was getting myself into because my bill was much higher than I anticipated. Apparently I agreed to have some kind of shine treatment done for another €40 on top of my color and cut. I wasn't terribly impressed. When I moved to Amsterdam, I made an appointment for the Centrum location, and was very pleased with Fleur, my stylist. She knew exactly what I wanted with the cut and color. I was in and out in about an hour and a half, and at €100, I was mostly satisfied. When I got home, I noticed I still had a few grey hairs peering around my face, and for that price, I think I'll be shopping around again.

This is the first time I went into a fancy/artsy hair place and didn't feel like a frumpy old fat woman. This is due to the kindness of their hair dressers, who have good skills and are willing to take risks and make your hair more fun if you'll let them. My hair is shorter and fluffier, curlier and more fun than it ever has been, thanks to these gals. The jewelry displayed is ok too. The designer fashions they sell are mostly big robe things, so I'm dubious about them, but they are interesting to look at while you're waiting. If you're in the area, I recommend checking them out.
