The most friendly owner and staff of The Old Lyre served up the most memorable meal we have experienced in all of Italy. To pair with our meal, the owner recommended the Mastio rosso from MonteRosola winery of Volterra. At 18 euros, it was a mid priced wine on the menu, and yet it was the best Italian red I have ever drank. Just goes to show you should never judge a wine by the price. Knowing the MonteRosola winery has sold out of the Mastio, we savored every sip. Even their house wine, Marchesi Ginori Lisci was excellent. The white truffle pasta was delightful, and the seared tuna was the best I have had in many years.

In the land of steak and wild boar it was a pleasure to find several seafood items on the menu and La Vecchia Lita did not disappoint. The mixed shellfish pan was perfect. Muddled, clams, scampi, shrimp and octopus in a garlic herb broth was outstanding. Great food, reasonable prices and friendly staff.

Really love this restaurant. Food tasted amazing and great service. Highly recommend with reservation. If not avoid around lunch time. Perfect for a late lunch

The hotel has a nice ambience and staff are welcoming and helpful. The cuisine are Tuscan but with a very nice modern twist. Taste and presentation are all fantastic! Would love to come back again.

Highly recommend eating here. Really good food prepared to order. Menu changes but for good reason. It's seasonal but focused on regional fare. The staff is accommodating and helpful. Best of all its really affordable. There is also a lunch cafeteria style serving during the day. Plenty of seating inside for groups or a cozy couple.

This restaurant came highly recommended by our accommodations and it did not disappoint. My dish was likely the best pasta I've ever eaten my life! And my husbands was amazing too!! It's a must eat in Volterra.

We needed food and I had heard great things about da Bado. Finding it is a bit tricky. It's not within the walls of the city. As you're leaving Volterra, look for the hospital signs. Da Bado is on your left, just past the turn for the hospital. (The intersection of Borgo San Lazzero and Via Luigi Scabia.) We were the first to arrive at the restaurant. By the time we left, every table was packed with someone speaking Italian. When you're the only English speakers in a restaurant, you've picked a winner. Since we hadn't really eaten all day, I ordered the bistecca alla fiorentina. The waiter warned me it was massive, but I explained that I was ravenous and I was an overweight American. I could handle whatever steak he threw at me. When the steak arrived, it was quite good. I added some salt and pepper to boost the taste, but I enjoyed it. The real winner was the potatoes. They had a perfectly thin, crispy outer layer and soft, pillowy, potatoey goodness on the inside. You must get them. Our server was kind. The wine was amazing. The atmosphere was great. And, again, you can't underestimate how authentic the food is when you're surrounded by a hundred people speaking only Italian to one another. Bravo, da Bado! And as a bonus tip, you may be wondering how the bathroom sink works. Like some public restrooms in Italy, the controls are on the floor. Step on the pedal to get the water flowing.

We started with the assortment of sheeps cheeses which was out of this world. Then we had a bunch of dishes to share: garden vegetable pasta (highly addictive), the steak, cod in tomato sauce and mushroom risotto. To finish we tried three of their dessert specialties: chocolate torte, semifreddo and a hot custard sort of thing. Everything was 10/10. The waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive. I am celiac and he made sure I could eat everything, even the desserts. And he made me a special pasta dish with gluten free pasta. He even brought out gluten free crackers so I could eat while my family had the bread before the meal. You should DEFINITELY eat here!
