La Tegghjia is a historic agriturismo on the hills behind Rena Majore in Gallura, that has been serving a prix fixe menu of typical Sardinian dishes for decades. What you get is incredible food in a setting that I guarantee will blow your mind.
The restaurant area has recently been renovated, so that now you get to enjoy your dinner on the front lawn overlooking the sea, so that all guests now get to enjoy a breathtaking sunset.
The € 50 prix fixe dinner starts with a set of appetizers that include local cold cuts (coppa, prosciutto, guanciale) and cheeses, local grilled vegetables (eggplant, peppers, zucchini), and beans and pulpedda (pork sausage).
It then features two first dishes: zuppa cuata[1], which is a lasagna-like dish made with layers of pane carasau soaked in broth and cheese. This is an incredibly flavorful dish that is like no other "soup" you ever tasted. The other first course is gnocchi al ragu, which features "gnocchetti sardi"[2] in a tomato and pork ragout.
The main course, and an unforgettable one at it, is the porcetto al sale: roasted suckling pig in salt, flavored with myrtle cooked in a wood-burning oven topped with baked potatoes. I've eaten porcetto many times, and this is the best I've ever had: the meat melts in your mouth, and the skin is super-crispy.
For dessert, you have a choice of homemade seadas with orange honey, or 2 ricotta and honey bundles. I recommend the seadas, which is a typical Sardinian dessert[3]. You can also ask for a myrtle sorbet, but I would skip it as it is just a lemon sorbet with added myrtle liqueur.
Great place to impress a date, to relax with friends or family, and also to bring kids thanks to the massive lawn.
Reservations a must.
Come very hungry.
Not for vegetarians.
