Thank you we have been waiting to celebrate our anniversary here and can't say enough about how amazing our meal was . The setting outside at dark with the lights and autumn leaves just brought a romantic vibe to the evening . Service and advice on what to choose superb choices . Can never go wrong with Tiramisu for dessert to end a special evening . Thank you again , a must for anyone that loves Italian food .

Gnocchi with beef ragu
Suzanne Y.

Came here for a friend's birthday dinner, part of the table shared 5 pizzas and we ordered a pizza with gnocchi to share. The ambiance is nice with attentive and friendly service. My friend who also got a pasta agreed that they were fairly small in portion. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy which paired wonderfully with the tangy beef ragu filled with tender beef. I found it a bit rich after eating about 8 of the gnocchi. The crunch on top and generous cheese definitely elevated the experience. We also had the Calabrese pizza, to which I enjoyed the crust where it was thicker (amazing dipped in the gnocchi sauce), but the middle with toppings was too thin and salty for my liking. Overall it was a pleasant experience but the food was a bit lackluster.

We ordered takeout pizza and they were delicious. The portions were generous, and the leftovers were great the next day.

I went here with my family as I haven't had Italian food in quite some time. The food was great but…read morethe service needed some work. Upon arrival it took quite a while to be seated. Living on Vancouver Island I think it's unreasonable to expect 5 star service from rural community's where the hiring pool is limited. The servers were not rude and instead quite nice, it just took a little longer to get things done. This place doesn't deserve 1 or 2 star reviews because of it. The food came out shockingly fast, same with the drinks. They provide a free bread basket as well which was a nice touch. Fettuccine Salmone: This was my first time trying a dish like this, It was very delicious but also very rich. I was very impressed at how generous the kitchen was with the salmon portion, I'm so used to restaurants being overly skimpy on seafood. Getting the platter for $47 is definitely the best value, serves two people with leftovers compared to a single serving for $30. The sauce was a little on the runny side but I didn't mind. Limoncello Spritzer: Nice summery drink, Could've used a bit more limoncello I thought for $13 but as someone who doesn't drink often I'm still gaging what's an appropriate price for different beverages. Atmosphere was nice and they had a good playlist of music.

The floors look to be original hardwood, and there are lots of beams and logs to see. I personally love the old style look, but it might not be to everyone taste. The service is quite good, our server especially, although it did seem like one individual was more interested in polishing glasses and not running food or bussing tables. He was a little passive aggressive with another staff member when he did run a couple of plates, came back and said "see that wasn't that hard." Not a good look. The food was quite good, although we felt, this time like the last, it was a little on the expensive side. It is quite a tourist mecca just outside of Parksville so that's likely part of the reason. It's also quite busy so clearly people are willing to pony up. We had the soup of the days Chantrelle mushroom soup. Evidently those mushroom are very plentiful in the area this time of year. It was quite good, creamy for sure, but we would have liked some more noticeable bits of mushroom. We also shared a Caprese salad which needed more balsamic and a little salt. The capers were a nice add. We finished with Margherita pizza which was nicely cooked and finished with fresh basil. Can't believe I am saying this, but there was too much cheese on it and maybe a little shy on the tomato sauce. Peroni beer on tap is a total winner for me. Have been twice, might go again, but likely not.

I also ordered pick up for just myself another time. Lots of dessert & pre-made meal choices. Even if you're just stopping for something to drink, you'll enjoy browsing through the little shop. They're focused on Italian specialty items but have a mix of other goods there too. Staff are always friendly & are very patient with my packing logistics so I can carry everything myself while using my cane. There's seating inside & on the patio. I'm yet to go early enough in the day to enjoy the patio or on a nicer weather day but I do appreciate the very sturdy ramp up to the restaurant/shop doors & patio. Decent amount of parking too. Quick to drive to from Duncan & I first noticed this place when I took Lake Road for different views. Immediately off the main road but pay close attention to google maps (or whatever you use) when you're driving to the restaurant. As you see the sign & restaurant after you should be slowing down to turn into driveway. By my third visit, I knew what to look for & I didn't have to circle back. Looking forward to stopping here in 2026 & trying more items off the menu.

We would look forward to treating ourselves. The food always had a certain "je ne sais quoi" about it. And the service was traditionally impeccable as well. Milanos is well located. Parking is never a problem. Since a new owner took over, we have seen Milano's steadily slide downhill both for food and service quality. Last night was the very worst experience we've ever had and the one helped us to make the final decision to never patronize this place again. While we were seated quickly enough, it took almost 25 minutes for us to get any kind of attention from the server. And the only reason that happened was because we flagged her down. Our actual food took another half hour to arrive. Yes, it was a busy Saturday night. But come on, folks. My sister and I both ordered the veal cutlets and linguine with prawns on top. When the food finally arrived, the first thing I noticed was that the temperature of the linguine was very inconsistent throughout. Nothing in this meal was really hot. The prawns had a very strange texture to them. Some of them looked like they were actually overcooked a bit. The food overall spoke "food service" (e.g. Cisco) to me. We were never offered a refill on our drinks. Nor did anybody drop by to ask how we were doing. While I have never actually managed a restaurant, I do have a good understanding of the dynamics of how a business should function. I'm not quite sure just what the function was of each of the three people inhabiting the front desk. That seems a little excessive. I could immediately see that there were not enough servers on duty. With the amount of time the food took to arrive, plus the ultimate quality, I can say the very same thing for the kitchen without even looking in there. Our server was absolutely great. Unfortunately, the circumstances under which she had to work did not allow her to live up to her potential. I did see a number of really good people on the front line. It's really sad they have such adverse conditions under which they have to work. Our server told us that she had actually been with this restaurant since it was originally Romeo's. She also shared with us about she found things going steadily downhill since the new owner took over and how frustrated she is. From what I saw, I have to fully agree with her. While the experience we had did not merit any kind of tip at all, she wasn't any part of the problem as to why we had a bad experience. We made sure she was tipped properly in spite of all this. All that wait time gave us a good deal of opportunity to look around the restaurant. The first thing that we noticed was that the windowsill beside our table was falling apart. Many spider webs are visible up in the ceiling. I'm sure if I looked around just a little bit more I could find more examples of total neglect of the premises. If you've never been to this restaurant, just be aware that the acoustics of its design make it very noisy. I never have held that against them per se because the food and service always more than made up for it. At least it used to. Finally, let's come to the final bill. A total of $83 for two meals with no appetizers or dessert from what is essentially a family style restaurant certainly does not represent great value in my book. While I do appreciate the major challenge that any restaurant has in this economy with the rising costs and all, somewhere in that equation, there has to be a little more consideration shown to us, the end customer. We are the ones that keep the establishments in business after all. Owners like this one seem to forget that fact. This really looks to me like a classic case of an owner who has acquired a phenomenally successful brand and is basically just taking what he can get out of it and running it into the ground. Very sad indeed, but unfortunately not uncommon these days. if anyone from Milano's management or ownership cares to address my concerns. I'm more than willing to discuss this.
