We dropped by this place on a whim after strolling around the cathedral and visiting the Resistance Museum. Many restaurants are shut on Mondays and we were not at all interested in burgers or pizza (these seem to be creeping over the French landscape like a plague). We wanted a family-operated, traditional workaday French lunch spot and La Souris Verte was exactly that. The restaurant was crowded (always a good sign) and the proprietor rushed diligently between tables but still found a moment to greet us warmly and have patience with our inability to speak all but the most rudimentary French. We ordered from the Formule Midi, a small carafe of white table wine, and coffee. Each course was simple, but beautifully prepared and presented. It is unlikely many Americans find themselves in Limoges, but if they do, I urge my countrymen to take time to check out the cathedral, botanical gardens, Resistance Museum, and fine art museum and, when you find yourself in need of a delicious, relaxing meal in good company, pop on over to La Souris Verte. read more
