We had dinner here while visiting Campeche. We got to the restaurant around 7:15 with a 7:30 reservation. We got right in. In fact we were the only people in the restaurant. We ordered drinks and they brought some chips and a very hot sauce. I loved the sauce but it was a little too hot for my wife. I ordered the shrimp with a garlic sauce, and my wife ordered the calamari in a sauce with local peppers. Both our dishes were delicious. We enjoyed the entree with the yellow rice provided. The service was great. The only issue was the wine by the glass was very limited. Only had one red Merlot selection, and a Chenin Blanca for the white. read more

We are here in our first night in Campeche. We were with a local so that helped. They make the best mezcalita (I tried at many other restaurants in town) and the cerviche was very good. Shrimp pasta ok. My issue was the price. It was 134$ for two with food and drinks (2 each) for 3 people. All the other nice restaurants in town we walked out for about $65. I came here with a large group on a friend's recommendation and could not have been more pleased with our experience. After an amuse bouche of savory shrimp broth, we shared a number of dishes, so that everyone could sample several items from the menu. The Ceviche de Pescado was fresh and zesty, and the Camarones al Coco (coconut crusted shrimp) delightfully crunchy and sweet, with a homemade apple sauce for dipping that I wanted to eat with a spoon. We also enjoyed Chile Ixcatic Relleno de Cazon and a mouthwatering dish of grilled octopus, Pulpo Sir Francis, which is made with the owner's secret recipe. Everything was of impeccable quality, but by far the star of the show was the Pampano en Escabeche, a local white fish that is lightly fried and served in a delicate vinegar-based sauce with roasted garlic, onions and carrots. The service throughout our meal was top-notch and the serene ambiance at La Pigua is equally conducive to lively conversation or a romantic repast for two. Very nice upscale seafood restaurant! Seriously good. Wife had fresh sea Bass in a green sauce. Note the sauce was spectacular!!! Menu notes it was an old recipe found in a trunk in a nearby village. I had a fish dish cozon la pan i think. A fish dish stuffed between tostado covered in campeche sauce. Had a great toasted habanero on it too! Get the natural shrimp with three sauces too!!! The coctails are ...eh..ok. Id skip for beer or wine. Pricier than normal but worth it. Terrific service. Waiter helped us pick a terrific Mexican white wine. Not so casual but you can wear shorts. Kids welcome. Not much more than seafood on menu though. read more

I don't know why people are rating this restaurant highly. It is a restaurant for tourists who don't travel well and eat fake Mexican food but want to pretend they are upscale. I ate the tikin xic. The sauce tasted like sun dried tomato which was not good; it was not authentic. I ended up trying it again at Marganzo for better taste. If you are going to eat fake Mexican food, why even bother to travel to Mexico? read more

I had one of my most memorable meals here at La Pigua. The octopus was particularly my favorite -- it was cooked to perfection with chili infused olive oil, chopped almonds and subtle, uniquely Mexican flavors. Dining here is an absolute must when visiting Campeche. read more

Hmmm...not fresh seafood...food seemed processed...inattentive wait staff...weak pour on tequila in margarita...quality of shrimp did match price point for dishes...for a fresh seafood restaurant a lot was missing...thinking the good days are long past...never asked if wanted dessert or coffee...also had to ask for bread after noticing other tables receiving bread...lots of other choices in Campeche...choose better than we did...only two stars... read more

The coconut shrimp were the best I've ever had. Along with soup of the day, a marisco tomato soup, guacamole, shrimp in mojo de ajo for mom, Negra modelo and some jimador it created an excellent meal. Four stars because it was more expensive than any other restaurant we've been to in DF, cancun, or Merida. Coco shrimp were 230 pesos, most expensive thing on the menu, soup about 120, beer 60 or so. We were recommended to visit by our tour guide and we were not disappointed. The grilled fish melted in our mouths and was easily the freshest we enjoyed during our stay. Another plus was the variety of sauces available for the fish dishes ( seafood, olive oil, garlic, chili and many more). This is probably the most expensive of the restaurants near the Old Town, but it was worth it. read more
