It's a pretty scary ride if you're not use to driving on mountain roads because these are not wide roads with smooth surfaces and slow bends. The breath-taking views, however, are second to none and makes the trip totally worth it! There are a lot of gorgeous perfectly "placed" flowers and plants growing along the mountain side. Wish I could spend more time here. Stunning place!

Is Arco Naturale a hiking path or is it the final destination of an otherwise unnamed hiking path?…read more All signs en route to Arco Naturale say just that. The actual name of the path that gets you here is the Pizzolungo Trail but nobody is ever going to go looking for that nor will they find signs that identify it as such. And with that caveat, this review is a two-fer; a review of both the trail and the feature, a well-placed, Paleolithic, limestone arch overlooking the blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The path out to Arco Naturale is paved and easy to follow. It snakes through Capri's narrow streets, eventually becoming a path that is surrounded only by nature. You might think the fabulous views were good when you were still among the houses, shops, and restaurants. They are, but these are better. You'll know you've reached your destination when the path and stairs taper off and you find yourself gazing through a stunning feat of nature, the Arco Naturale. It's now photo time. Many people arrive on Capri and quickly book a boat tour to see the island from the sea and Arco Naturale is one of the sites visited. I don't know what the arch looks like from the sea but when you hike there you're actually staring through the arch, at eye level. I could see boats far below and can only imagine the passengers had their necks pointed cloud-wards. The arch... yeah, it's a lovely lookout point. Even better is the path that gets you there.

This was one of our favorite things in Capri. We walked from our AirBnB to the arch one morning and…read morethen had a morning snack/brunch from the bench overlooking the arch. It was stunning. Expect a pretty strenuous short hike as you do a lot of up out of town, then a lot of down to the arch and then back again. Not bad, but not nothing either. A lot of stairs too. We brought a stroller for the 1-year-old and it helped for a lot of it (since it's all paved), but toward the end there was a lot of carrying up and down stairs. Come early in the morning if you can to avoid the not-insane, but still very present crowds that show up as day trippers have had more time to make the trek. We were there around 10-10:30a and had the place to ourselves for a brief bit, but by 11-11:30 it was getting a bit crowded. The entire time we were there, we saw boat tours come through, pause and look up at the arch. We did a boat tour later and I can say that the view from the top is 10x better than the view from the boat. If you can possibly make the hike to see it from above, do it.

Monte Solaro , the highest point in Capri , was an absolutely beautiful mountain top point of view…read moreon the Amalfi Coast. A 33 min ferry ride from Positano and 15 min open top taxi ride to the start point. $14Euros takes you to the single chairlift and 14 minute picturesque ride up the mountain. You are expected to pull down your own chair bar so be ready to jump on quickly because it is a 30 to 40 foot drop as you ascend up the mountain. The views are definitely worth it from the top. Recommendations: bring food and water . Try not to go late in the day as taxis are sparse and ferry does not leave late .Give yourself a 1 to 2 hour cushion since you cannot walk back into town for safety reasons. We were lucky enough to share an open air cab with 3 others also rushing back to ferry. Overall, was worth a look if have a day or 2 in Capri.

At the top there is a bar where you can lounge, take pictures and get some drinks. If you are a customer of the bar they give you a bathroom coin chip to use it for free if you ask - otherwise the bathroom requires some small euro payment. I do not recommend drinking too much when at the top as you need your stability and common sense to sit back on the chairlift to get back down the mountain!

If your idea of shopping in Italy is "T-shirts, shot glasses and gelatis", this will not appeal to you. But, if you love quiet walks with lovely linen and ceramic shops, no Vespas running you over and nobody shouting at you to eat at their restaurant, you'll love it as much as I do. No smell of petrol. Just the aroma of the abundance of flowers and puddled cobblestones.

One thing everybody agrees on is that it's the heart of the island where, sooner or later, all those visiting Capri come to watch the world go by. Small cafes, rental scooter shops, eateries all around, cute shops for shopping, a small tourist information office. There is a small public beach, relaxing here in the evening is so soothing. You can take a bus to Anacapri to go to Monte Solaro to catch the glimpse of 360 Capri Island. It's a great place to walk around, grab a drink or shop. Many of Capri's famous fashion stores line the streets in the neighborhood surrounding the Piazzetta. There are a few viewpoints near the square that looks down upon Marina Grande and the Tyrrhenian Sea. At the peak times, it can be crowded.

It was 20 minutes of up and down wave movement. I arrived at the Port of Marina Grande where you take a funicular ride to the main square called the Piazza Umberto I or Piazzetta. There is a small tourist office, town hall, ex-cathedral and cafes which surround the square. I stopped in one of the cafes for a cappuccino (6 Euros). History has it that in 1938 Raffaele Vuotto started the first outdoor seating cafe when the square was a market place selling fresh vegetables and fish. Capri's most famous attraction is the Blue Grotto which is the highlight of the Capri experience. The famous fashion stores, art studios and homes to the rich and famous are on full display in Capri. Capri was once the hot spot for the stars of the silver screen. There is a small public beach and a bus terminal which will take you to Anacapri and Mont Solaro for 360 degree views of the island and the Italian coastline. I think visiting the small towns on the Amalfi coast is a better use of your time.
