Calamares brava y mussels vinagreta
Anjelica C.

These mussels are amazing! And that's coming from someone who usually doesn't care much for mussels, since they're usually flavorless and too tough. I'm guessing everyone else has just been cooking them wrong cuz the mussels at la mejillonera just melted in my mouth! We ordered calamares bravas and my husband chose the mussels vinaigrette and the server suggested we also try the mussels marinera so we got that as well. Everything was delicious! I typically don't even like raw onions but the onions on the mussels vinaigrette had amazing flavor, not at all overpowering. The mussels marinera were kind of like eating mussels in a warm soup, very comforting. And of course the calamares were done right and also tasted great. We came here first on our night of pinxto hopping since they were the first place open (6pm) and I would've gladly come back at the end of the night for more mussels if I wasn't already full.

Loved this spot - as other reviews note, unpretentious fun vibe with incredible seafood. A great place to kick off the night - don't miss the calamari and wash it down with a cold beer.

Patatas bravas. Want some potatoes with that mayo?

I hate to be the only naysayer here, but I didn't care for this place very much. It was recommended to me from someone who visited it on a food tour, but I would't really make a special trip to come here, nor recommend it unless you're looking for a good late-night eat with cheap food. This is a bit divey, and seems better suited if you you need cheap alcohol/beer, and potatoes to soak it all up. They are known for their mussels, which we ordered with spicy sauce, and they were fine but nothing to write home about. The patatas bravas that everyone raved about were cubes of slightly mushy potatoes with a mayo & spicy sauce mixed together. I've definitely had better patatas bravas in my life. My boyfriend and I were disappointed in this. Maybe this would have been more fun if were were drunk and had a huge group of friends, but I wouldn't recommend it above a lot of the other tapas bars we went to.

Mussels!

We came here for the mussels. We had them prepared 3 different ways: plain with a little lemon, soaked in a vinegrette with onions and spices, and finally soaked in a spicy tomato sauce. They were all good, but the latter was my favorite. If you like mussels, check this place out.

This is like a little hidden gem. It looks like an old whole in the wall, and that adds so much character to this place. We came to try the mussels in salsa tigre. They were just outstanding and very simple. Don't let the simplicity fool you, these very fresh steamed mussels come with a spicy tomato sauce that is out of this world. We also tried the patatas bravas. This is a very popular tapa through out Spain, but the key was the fresness and the quality of the sauces. I had an amazing time, and I am ready for more.

Had the Patatas Bravas and Tigres (Mussels with spicy tomato sauce). It was great. Place has a diner like feel to it.

We tried the marinera version too but neither of us liked it, the sauce was a bit heavy and just nowhere as good as the vinagreta.

Go here. My girlfriend and I came to this cocktail bar knowing that beer, wine, and vermouth were…read morethe standards in San Sebastian, however the cocktails here proved more than worth a stop. Mikel made us the most phenomenal mezcal drink and old fashioned we've had in a long time. Our mezcal cocktail, the Al Green, was tart and boozy - beautifully garnished with wasabi peas. Served in a coupe glass, it was a deep green, but tasted of the floral and bitter notes of the mezcal with citrus and savory notes. Any mezcal or margarita lover would love it. The old fashioned was served as it should be - with a massive rock and a heavy shake of bitters. The orange garnish and local cherry set off the bourbon perfectly. On your quest for pintxos and dinner in San Sebastian, make a point to stop and see Mikel at Arraun.

We were winding down from our 3rd day of Pinxto pub crawl and were looking for a place to dance…read more(that wasn't filled with Aussie frat boys....well any frat boys in General). Walking towards our Pensionne, we heard the muffled beats of house music and decided to try it out. I'm glad we did! We rolled in about 12am, and it was empty except for a bachelorette party and a few dudes. As we were a group of 8, we were happy to spread out into the small area and continue our celebrating our libations. So why do you ask, does this bar warrant 4*...well it's because the DJ was spinning the most awesome set of deep house!! As it rolled into 1-2am it got a little bit more crowded but I think this places doesn't really get bumping until 3am (it closes at 4-5am). So if you're up for some good house music (none of that progressive sh** either), come to Bar Arraun. Drinks are a little $$ but they are stiff. Worth it for a night of dancing to some good beats and lots of BASS
