    Frietsteeg - Frietjes

Fry places are a dime a dozen in Amsterdam, but I thought Frietsteeg had some of the best potatoes…read more The fries were super crispy and extra salty, and they were served in good sized portions. You pick your size of potatoes and then sauces that you'd like served on top. Frietsteeg gives you the sauces on the side, which I really like. Most places simply squirt the sauces on top of the fries, which really stinks if it turns out you don't like the sauce. I opted for a small order of fries with a traditional side of mayonnaise for dipping. There isn't any seating so you strictly grab and go. Bags of fresh potatoes sit out front as a sign of quality. This place is located next to a coffeeshop, so they stay pretty busy all day and night and the clientele is interesting at all hours. Smoke a little weed and fries sound even more appealing than ever, lol. The fries here area tasty, fresh and affordable. I'm not sure it's worth a detour to get fries here because you can't really go wrong with fried potatoes anywhere in the city.

Amazing fries with all sorts of sauce option. Unlike the fries shop near Amsterdam Centraal station…read morethat caters to tourists, this place is for locals (as the menu board is written in Dutch) and is cheaper. I arrived at around 7pm and from that time until its closing time at 7:30pm, there were 6 other customers and all of them were Dutch. I wanted large size but I couldn't decide which sauce to pick, so I asked the staff for suggestion and he recommended the Fritessaus (house sauce, which is mayo). The fries were cooked on the spot. Both fries and sauce are in ample quantity. It's amazing how you can find such an amazing food item that's delicious and fills your stomach for under 4 Euros. What's even better is that it's not too salty and you don't have the thirsty feeling after eating the fries. Just a heads-up, the store is really small and only accommodate around 4 people to eat while standing. If your group is large, it's best to order and take it outside to eat.

Vleminckx Fries lured me in all the way from the United States based on their instagram postings…read more That, and because this is one of the only places that we found that actually cuts the potato in house. They are not delivered frozen like some of the other fry places in Amsterdam. My husband and I shared an order and the portion was huge! We asked the guy who took our order what sauce was traditional Dutch and he pointed us towards a sauce made out of mayonnaise, peanut sauce and chopped onion. It sounded strange, but it was actually quite tasty! There are no tables to sit at, so we stood near the shop while we munched away at our perfectly cooked dutch potatoes. So good!

My favorite french fry place in Amsterdam…read more Warning: The sambal is SPICY - I couldn't finish it and I like spicy - so I just went back to the cheese fries. Hot, fresh, and good vibes here. Price is reasonable. Staff is nice and it's fun to people watch everyone eating their fries on this tiny street. Many of the other fry places in Amsterdam seem to be more crowded and located near weed shops with guys uncomfortably hanging out in front with signs up saying "don't eat your fries here" and I didn't think the fries were as good at those places either. Prices might have been higher too because they are going for the hungry stoner tourist crowd and social media branding. So don't go to those kind of places because you will buy your fries and then have to walk two blocks in the cold to stand and eat them and they will be cold. Note: Many restaurants in Amsterdam will give you a COKE ZERO SUGAR when you order a coke (instead of regular coke) but this actually tastes better than I thought it would. This will be surprising to you if you are from the USA. Maybe there is some soda sugar regulation thing here for restaurants or maybe this is just what they prefer to carry on the menu?? I'm not sure..but this has happened to me multiple times here now and I think I have been converted. This is a great place to come get a warm snack of fries before shopping at the nearby merchants and mini mall next door which has a HEMA inside and a Xenos nearby (it's kind of like if Pier 1 Imports were a dollar store.) If you are really hungry though have the fries as an appetizer then go next door to the Nepali restaurant. It's really good and you'll get more filling food but it has a tiny seating are and might only be open for dinner.
